Before anyone gets excited, the only part of this story that is true was that Alice Roosevelt did once jump into a ship pool fully clothed (sadly there are no pictures available, nor is there any indication that any other women joined her), everything else brought up here (related to wamming) is false. Also if anything said doesn't match up with her real personality, sorry but I don't really care, it would just make this less enjoyable for all of us.

December 12th 1906

It had never been a secret to anyone, Especially Mr. Theodore Roosevelt himself, that his daughter Alice was a very wild girl. From the minute he had assumed the presidency after Mckinley's death just over five years ago, Alice had always been finding a way to bring attention to herself. It had been mostly manageable at first, sometimes she was smoking at the whitehouse or was riding in cars with men. Other times she had been caught gambling with bookies, something the president found less scrupulous but not that bad, it didn't involve his actual political career at least. However, just last year she had finally done it. While on his tour of the far east (meaning Asia), Alice had leapt fully clothed into the ship's pool and even coaxed a house member into joining her. While normally this would have been expected, even mild by her standards, doing it in front of representatives of earth's major powers was another thing entirely. This had been the last straw and Teddy decided that it may be best to leave her at home for such important trips in the future. The trip hadn't been all for nothing for Teddy though, far from it in fact. While on his tour he had managed to negotiate a peace settlement between Russia and Japan which ended their war. As a result of this, he had won the Nobel Peace prize and was currently in Oslo accepting his award. There were also benefits for Alice too. During that trip she had discovered the joys of swimming in wet clothes. To her it all just felt great and it honestly wasn't that much harder than swimming in the swimsuits that were typical of the era. She had honestly hoped to be able to take advantage of this more often, but for one reason or another just never found a good reason or opportunity.

But with her father, and most of the executive branch's important people, out of the country, she found a perfect opportunity and reason, not just for her to get soaked to her britches again, but for all the ladies of the country's upper strada. She intended for it to be a sort of Christmas/Congratulations party with a surprise that she would reveal during the midpoint into the ceremonies. Hardly being able to wait she had the invitations sent out immediately to everyone she could think of. Friends, family, even those she didn't know all too well were welcome to come and welcome to leave at any point but she thought that nobody really would, she could make sure of that.

December 17th 1906

At last the day had arrived and the party was in full swing. As it was an event at the white house itself, most of the women there were impeccably dressed even for the standards of the time.

The women all arrived wearing a variety of frocks and dresses of an assortment of different colors. Almost all had their hair done up to perfection and most fitted their tops with a hat of some sort. Alice herself was wearing a darkish yellow dress with several layers and a small hat atop her head and two short white gloves. Her "Lady in waiting" (really just a young maid named Evelyn whom Alice had befriended) was dressed in a simple white dress with about two petticoat layers with two long white gloves and a large floral hat. The two were chatting before they had to go down and have Alice make her grand entrance.

"Oh, you look just wonderful Mrs. Roosevelt. I bet you'll be the envy of everyone down there."

"I'm not so sure really. I mean some of the women down there are real lookers and have gone all out. You especially, if I do say so myself."

"Oh thank you. Well I suppose I don't really get to dress up everyday like some of you. Especially not for a purpose such as this."

"Do you mean the party in general or specifically" Alice began to ask before being cut off "Both really. It's been so long since the last time I wore anything like this"

"Well you will get to show off soon. Looks like it's time" Alice said just as the clock struck 8:00 the two then began to head downstairs and to the pool area where Alice had instructed everyone to go before hand for the ceremonies

Alice approached the top of the diving board alongside Evelyn and let out a loud cough in order to get everyone's attention. Once that was accomplished she began to read from her prepared speech.

"So. I'm certain that many of you are wondering what it is exactly that has brought me here"-she stated indicating the diving board. "Firstly it was an easy spot to get your attention so we can give a big congratulations to my Father and our president, Theodore Roosevelt, on becoming the first American to win the Nobel Peace Prize" A loud cheer erupted from the crowd below after this announcement. After it died down, Alice spoke at length about his accomplishments before she continued. "Second though is I wished to bring some fun to the women of our fine nation. Now, I am sure that some of you remember my little antics during the tour of the far east last year." a lot of the women below began to chat amongst themselves, some clearly forgot and needed a refresher. "What occurred was that during a particularly hot day, I decided to take a swim, but I forgot my swimming outfit so what was I to do? Well on that day I decided simply to say, 'screw it' and went right in as was." It really was quite a time if I say so myself. I don't even see why some people found it so scandalous. Really I think it only would have been truly scandalous if I HAD removed my clothing before going in." This quip received a laugh from the audience below. "...But I learned something then, that I kind of liked the feeling." Some idle chatter began to restart among the women below. "And I learned, well learned again really, that we should not let societal standards on what it means to be a proper lady keep us from enjoying life to its fullest." a lot of the women continued chatting while some kind of looked at her confused as to what she was doing. " I guess what I'm really trying to say here is EVERYONE IN THE POOL" and with a leap and large splash she made a cannonball and splashed everyone. Behind her Evelyn had opened up her parsel a little to avoid some of the splashing before doing a more graceful jump off the board in a style remincint of Mary Poppins before landing herself, although she did not go all the way underwater like the "princess" herself.

"Woooooooh" screamed an excited Alice shooting out of the pool. She looked over at Evelyn and said "Now, now, if we are going to do this we better do it all the way." Evelyn getting the memo grabbed the brim of her hat and soaked the top of her hair as well. Looking around Alice noticed that so far she and Evelyn were the only two currently taking a swim, somewhat exhacterbated Alice simply yelled "Come on, we ain't got all night people."

In response a woman of about 40 who had been climbing the diving board said "Alright I'm going in." and did a graceful swan dive before landing about 3 feet away from the other two soaked wenches. One by one the other women simply let down their resolve and all started diving in. Some used the board while others just jumped in from the side. It began to get a little crowded but being night time in december, nobody was really in the mood to get out. A few even practiced their strokes and synchronized swimming techniques.

Alice and Evelyn were both sipping on some wine when another woman dressed in a large blue gown and very wide brimmed hat came over to offer them a chance to play a game of chicken alongside another girl dressed almost identically to Evelyn. They accepted and after a brief round Alice and her maid won. The four women, still in high spirits began to talk amongst each other.

"Wow, Alice I can't believe I've never done this before. It is so refreshing and honestly it really isn't any different than swimming in the suits we usually wear."

"Yeah. I hope you can make this a regular occurrence in the future."

Alice Blushed and said "I'd love to but you know how my father is. The last time I did this he got furious. I suspect part of it was because it took the attention off him for two seconds"

The girls all laughed at this and sat back and watched as other people began to make bets on a race between the wives of two senators over who could swim the length of the pool 10 times over again whilst keeping their hats on their heads. After a while Alice herself got involved in the race but found that she was beaten by a young girl whom she did not know was a professional swimmer.

A good time was truly had by all but eventually like all things it had to come to an end. The women all got out and stood by the poolside for one final photo before they each leapt in one last time.

December 18th 1906

The Next morning Alice woke up to the morning papers all seemed boring until she got to the section on politics. As it had turned out over the trip her mother had fallen into the ship's pool and had begun swimming around before coaxing the wife of vice president Taft to join her. Alice couldn't help but laugh a little, oh times at the white house were about to become much more fun
