I'm thinking of designing and building fine tanks to be assembled by purchasers. This poll is to find out if there is a market for them. And any suggestions would be welcome.
I voted yes, but like many things it would depend on price. There was a discussion a while back, where someone said that they cost about £1500: https://umd.net/forums/who-now-owns-a-gunge-tank-in-the-uk That would fall into the category of "something to save up for" rather than "impulse buy".
I voted 'no'. Not that I don't want it to be a success - I wish you well - but I doubt very many people will want to do this unless the tanks are retailed incredibly cheaply. Either some way you can make them simple enough so you can afford to sell them at prices in the very low hundreds - or you sell very few bespoke ones for several thousand.
The market for material goods like these is also thwarted somewhat by people needing to be discreet and or secretive (Can it be hidden in a shoe box on top of the wardrobe?) I think the numbers will be small, I'm afraid.
Thank you both for your honesty and I was already thinking about the secretive trying to make it light easy to breakdown and fold away. Someone saying £1500 is ridiculous I'm no where near that in my costings so far and I was trying make a flat pack design to break down neare flat and slot away say under a couch or in a wardrobe or in a shed. If you have any other ideas please let me know as I'm not really doing this for the cash more for the community as we are really lacking in things like this the how to guides for self builds are not even that good so I thought I'd take a crack at it
