Producers: How do you plan to cope with what appears to be an inevitable recession? Maybe produce scenes a lot less often? I imagine this may hit the big producers like Rich and Messygirl, who are pretty prolific with how often they release new material!

Purchasers: Are you already buying clips on a less frequent basis?

I have been trying to stockpile content assuming that it may get too costly to make more (and if I can keep making then it means I can possibly chill a bit eventually)

I say this; a lot of the adult industry does well during a down turn in the right places

I started having to produce less frequently around January. Where we shoot on like a 2 or 3 or even 4 day stretch.

but now that most people cannot get customs? Its really hard. I have some plans in place and I hope they work. I feel bad for my girls. They need work. They WANT work. The rest of the gals are dying to get in the mud. I have a plan for mud customs that will help with pricing but I have a feeling I wont get many.
I have to book enough work to bring the gals in, and i havent been able to do that as of recent. I have some videos stocked back up but not enough.
Mel lives close by so that is helpful but paying out of pocket is tough.
So? hopefully the ideas I Have in place to keep this place going? will work. I dont really have any other options considering my home life.

I DO have some supplies I have offered for free to customers im STARTING there. also CLOTHES! lots and lots of clothes im ready to trash for no extra charge for them but I have been offering that for a while now

I'm already hearing about models turning down work, not because there's anything wrong with the fees they're being offered, but because so much of what they're paid is eaten up by their costs. I'd guess we'll see more stuff shot remotely. We've already seen quite a bit of that over the last two years for an obvious reason.

I'm sort of a cross between a producer and a purchaser in that I commission a lot of customs. So far I haven't slowed down due to having any less income (although I'm in a very stable job) but I have had to make my slime buckets smaller due to inflation. Slime ingredients are up like 30%!

yeah, this. I had a couple people either turn me down or ask for more money after agreeing to a video. That's when I recalculated my slime cost and realized, yikes!

I'm not a producer, but if I keep getting a paycheck, I'll keep buying wam scenes. Also if there are any female producers near Maryland/Pennsylvania in need of male model, message me. I'll work for free, I just want a woman to get me messy.

Yes, I have been since gas prices hit over $4.00 USD in my region.

Don't know if we count as producers since we don't sell anything, but we have also been hit by the higher costs of supplies. May be cutting back on the amount of oatmeal and adding more water into our current slime recipe to make things go further.

A lot of guys say stuff like this - but - it's not the generous offer that it seems.

Making clips, in general, is pretty expensive. While there are stuff that can be done to mitigate these costs - obviously rising food costs has a big impact on splosh. Then of course the rising fuel costs meaning that while you might be happy to take the hit, other people involved might not be able to afford it. Also depending on where things are being shot, there is the rising energy costs - running lights, cameras, air conditioners, whatever.

Next up.
An amateur male offering to work for free doesn't save that much on the overheads - and - it undercuts and therefore takes work away from male talent (or another female talent, if someone decides to go for 'splosh a guy' as a cost saving measure) which in turn does very little to help the industry.

But also, shooting is often on-the-clock and with a lot of splosh stuff a lot is very much one take. Again bringing disadvantages to bringing in someone who is inexperienced with shooting as a cost-saving measure

In the UK in wider fetish there are a lot of amateur males get used and there really is a mixed bag. Some shoots have what is called a "filming tribute" where the guy pays towards the expenses of the shoot (usually between £50-£150 depending on this and that) and some ladies offer discounted session in exchange for filming.
There are also some which do not require exchange of money either way and while there are a lot of good folk do the rounds - there are some who slip the net whose motivation is to do their fetish for free/cheap - which is fair - you get fetish, they get content - but also again has it's own problems like you're ready to shoot and the guy has forgot his ID - or - asks about a mask he's never previously asked about and hasn't bothered to bring - or asks to do pegging and hasn't cleaned (or was told this would be done and to clean, but hasn't)
Or maybe they do have everything but really don't know how to interact in scenes so end up either dead fishing or pissing everyone off

The other thing is that offering to work for free seems more about taking advantage of a recession for your own gain, rather than actually being helpful.

What I would instead say.... if you do want to use this as a get in to filming, instead of offering to do it for free, offer to put in for the costs.
In this case it genuinely does help out more than 'for free' and putting in may help the producers be able to do other scenes that day rather than just yours - and then, as well as getting the experience you wanted - you also have at least the beginnings of a show reel you can use to show others you are serious and you have a reference
The producers can then see if your content sold well or not and if it's worthwhile inviting you back.

I don't understand this, surely model expenses are the producer's problem? When we have visiting people, as well as model fees, we pay all travelling expenses (train fare or road fuel), snacks and drinks during the shoots, and a decent restaurant meal for everyone at the end of each shoot day. Basically a visiting model here shouldn't have any expenses, unless we all go clubbing afterwards, in which case we'll they usually pay them in but they buy their own drinks.

Models do their own makeup but I can't imagine that's a huge expense, no one has ever mentioned it as a problem. We have paid for hair dye so a model can have freshly dyed hair for the shoots, and then refresh whatever has washed out when they get home.

As to the original question, we've always run with a huge stockpile of unreleased scenes, so releases will just keep rolling regardless. If sales drop we might have to cut back production somewhat but if possible I'd rather not as some of our people do depend on the income they earn from shooting.

Having said that, I suspect WAM videos are probably a bit like chocolate - while someone might put off buying that brand new SUV or 70" TV, even in a recession most people can still afford to buy chocolate bars - chocolate companies are a good stock market buy when times are tough as they usually do OK. Likewise, the odd fetish video is unlikely to break most people's banks, its an affordable luxury.

I haven't been going too crazy buying clips lately, It's a little bit recession, a little bit lack of clips that fully interest me. I do feel like I'm trying to hold back on spending money on stuff lately. My other "addiction" is art, and there's a huge drop in that for me this year as well. I go from "I should be spending my money because I could die any day..." to "I should be saving my money because who knows if I'll need it in the future." It's a vicious cycle

Yes, but it seems some producers' rates have been pretty static for years, and expenses sometimes fall a little short, plus there are other things such as childcare, and picking up a coffee and a snack on the way if it's a long journey. Ditto the way home.

I haven't bought fewer videos due to inflation. My tastes are quite specific - nudity and thick sticky substances such as molasses, honey, fake tar, black grease etc. (and feathers if possible) so the number of videos that I buy depends more on what content producers are offering than it does on price.

What I've found is there are both models and producers who work in different ways and some are more flexible than others.

But also; if something does rest on the producer.
So the producer is basically "we pay £x + travel + hospitality"
That is great, but as travel costs go up for the models and food costs go up this becomes a more expensive gig.

And some producers might be in a position where they can absorb the costs and just carry on

Others might be either unable or unwilling
So it might be that in some cases that the rising costs exceeds the shoot budget so they either have to cap what is offered, or, only work with people closer to them

In itself; this could then disadvantage models based on location if they're being overlooked because of their expenses
or
disadvantage producers on location if they're now facing higher costs
(which might tie in with some doing a temporary pause until prices come down)

There was quite a break during the pandemic, unfortunately. And it depends on my pay job, finding enough time besides work that for those great things...

Need to Travel to Berlin

I'm in the middle ground of being a producer, model, and purchaser so I kinda tick all boxes to answer this question.

From a producer and model perspective, I make a financial loss but then again I didn't get into it for the money and I'm in the fortunate position that I have a main income source which funds my hobby.

Being a trans model also unfortunately puts me within an even smaller market than if I were, say, a cisgendered model.

My personal benefit, however, has been immeasurable in terms of the confidence and friends I've made and hope to continue to make.

Rising costs means I am more conscious about what I buy and I do find myself using slime and gunge which I find more economical than buying food products.

From the perspective of being a procurer of the finest of WAM, I am very aware that any and all purchases have a significant and direct impact on the ability for producers to produce content (just as someone buying my content does to me).

I would say I have reduced the amount of clips I'm buying, and have found that when I do buy content I am also selecting it based on my investment in the model and store than just having something to watch.

I'm not sure I'm as "prolific" as you think. Just checked and I've released a grand total of 14 scenes in 2022, which is about one every 2 weeks.... Not bad, but certainly not the pace of The Man & Wife (who put out a new scene every week) or Messygirl (sometimes multiple scenes a week), to name just two.

I'm also different in that I have a pretty good backlog of unreleased material at all times. Not always by choice--and I actually made a LOT of headway into said backlog over COVID--but it allows me to shoot when the opportunity (or model) arises, not because I need to get new content out. The bulk of my "2022" scenes were actually shot in 2021 (or earlier) and I'm pretty sure the next release after Kristina will be a 2021 shoot as well. So if costs get crazy, I can wait it out.

But let's be honest.... My costs haven't suddenly jumped because gas prices are high or we belatedly realized that printing an extra $20 trillion in U.S. currency in 2020 *might* lead to inflation down the road? Food prices have been rising steadily for a decade, at least in terms of stuff like pie crusts and Cool Whip. Some stuff went away due to COVID (I really miss my now-discontinued WalMart cakes) but that was 2 years ago.
And most importantly, model rates were rising before 2020 but they really exploded with COVID. A lot of these 20-something women got stimulus checks & unemployment so they didn't NEED to take any modeling job available.... plus a lot of people stopped shooting in 2020.... and then they found a little platform called OnlyFans, and the rest is history. If you're a model with any kind of social media following, you can ask for crazy rates.... and probably get them. And then the trick becomes finding a great talent who somehow hasn't been "discovered" yet, AND is willing to work in person for reasonable rates AND has no issues with getting messy.
That's a very small pool of candidates.

And that's been the big issue for 2 years now. Not sure it's gonna change anytime soon. If anything, an economic downturn might get some of these "virtual" models back to doing real-world shoots, although I wouldn't bet on that.
The good news is that I still haven't found any real correlation between what I pay a model and how well she performs. TBH some of my best sellers charge very reasonable rates (still), which is nice. It's just more of an issue when recruiting new talent, as I find myself having to offer much higher pay now (versus 2019) just to be taken seriously.
