A lot of my hobbies and interests seem past tense...
I'm a musician... I've been playing guitar a long time (a ridiculous long time, if you count that unplayable Sears acoustic I got as my first "guitar"), and I've performed that four times... twice in New England (an open mic thing, first with a big ensemble where I was the only one unfamiliar with the song being played, and a month later as a trio doing a fusion improv where I sounded like I knew what I was doing!) and twice in the Mid-Atlantic area (an acoustic song at a book store and another at a wedding). Before that handful of gigs, I played with all kinds of metal bands: classic, hair, thrash, prog, death, and more. My own music is early prog metal (Fates Warning/Queensryche) with neoclassical leanings (think Yngwie, Jason Becker, Randy, and Andy LaRocque) with a darker, doomier edge ala My Dying Bride. And some Voivod and Celtic Frost thrown into the blender.
I've played bass (my ex's right handed instrument strung lefty flipped over to play righty and later my own fretless) at exclusive standing (and flying! lots of birds!) room only gigs with my pre-divorce front porch family & friends funk(ish) band... and then at gigs and open mics and Celtic music sessions throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. I've played 70s to 90s rock/metal covers, as the house band rhythm section for open mic events (two of the country acts wanted to hire me! ), faerie/folk festival music, traditional Celtic music (which doesn't have a bass, traditionally!), stoner/doom (more sludge, maybe? thrash doom? we were too fast for doom, really!), and an acoustic folk & classic rock bar band.
I also write short fiction and poetry, and really need to edit together some more collections or both. Or, you know, write new stuff.
These days? All I seem to do is play a bit of Genshin Impact every day (gotta catch 'em all, amirite?) and dance.
As a Serious Metal Guitar Goddess(TM, probably), I shunned dancing as Not-Metal-Enough, but a belly dancer who dances to extreme metal (and looks hawt doing it!) has reminded me I used to choreograph elaborate ballets all around my house when I was a little girl, and now I dance as much as I can. Not good at it, but Imma dance anyway!
Even though I don't play as much as I used to, I still listen to music almost all the time - of course metal, goth, 80s new wave, and other dancey stuff, but also classical, jazz, and tons of other things.
I did break a nail the other day, though, so the long nails on the right hand went away and I can, in theory, play bass. I also made the left nails matchingly ugly short, so I can play the guitar again (leads were surprisingly okay with longer nails, but some of the intricate positioning on the classical guitar parts were impossible! ugh! with the longer nails!)
Wow....there are alot of rail enthusiasts and model railway fans here.
My late Grandpa left 3 things behind his love of trains, his model railway (which he never built) and his cat
So, I'm now a "Cat Dad". I have built Grandpa's model railway and developed a love of modelling. I ve always had a love of railways, but since having kids I have got more involved in the scene.
I have recently started chatting and developing friendships online.
I churchcrawl. I love visiting churches for their history and architecture. One time Bellringer (need to get back into it)
I love history.
Currently experimenting with black and white film photography.
Wow lots of people with similar interests to me! I also enjoy trains and models. I also really enjoy boardgames, tabletop role-playing, motorcycles, 3d printing and making things and also cycling and mountain biking (also a good excuse to get some mud action now and then)
Fan of all things mascotry/amateur furry cosplay, zombie battalion, so basically your introduction to Pittsburgh 101, right?
I just love local history, cemeteries, geocaching, thrifting, cosplay, trains, pinball, writing, amateur filmmaking, Ghostbusters, trash fandoms...all the things that drew me back to the area I grew up in some time ago.
ETA: Hypermiling, road tripping, car shows/cruises, exploring Pgh's famed "death stairs," quad skating, reading and book clubs, county fairs and carnivals, ethnic festivals which we have every other weekend around here, puppetry, vintage animation, vintage Christian animation, collecting VHS tapes and definitely church-crawling.
Add me to the 'I can't believe how many of us have the same interests!' exclaimers!
I like building paper models, quite a diverse range of subjects, have a good amount of aircraft but recently been designing British trains in N scale starting with the simpler shapes such as Mk.1 EMUs and London Underground types. I'm not a 'trainspotter' but I do like trains both modern and heritage railways when I get to visit. Music is my profession and play two instruments to professional standard and dabble in several others. I write tunes as well and play trad Irish music with friends. Running I take quite seriously and train regularly. Have done four marathons and plenty of other distances and keep improving PBs. Also a prolific parkrunner, now on over 250 runs and nearly 75 venues across Europe. I'm almost entirely a road runner but want to get into trail running. I like seeing and riding with the local bicycle community, especially unusual bikes like cargo bikes, recumbants, etc, of which there are plenty here. Every few years a drum n' bass DJ on a cargo trike visits and we have a giant ride-out with over 2000 people and just take over the city for an afternoon.
Outside of WAM, I'm really into video games and sports and motorsports. I follow both professional and college sports religiously living close to Washington DC and the pro sports teams I root for are the Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore Ravens, Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards (Bullets), Washington Nationals, and for the soccer fans, I root for DC United in MLS and Newcastle United in the English Premier League. I follow Formula One and my favorite driver is Lewis Hamilton and my favorite team is the Haas team. When I play video games, I usually play sports or racing games, mainly from the Gran Turismo series along with the NCAA Football/Madden series. I also like music from the 70's, 80's and 90's up to today. I mainly listen to old school R&B, Motown and old school hip hop. I like listening to New Edition, Parliament-Funkadelic among others. Other than that, I like watching movies and TV as well as watching professional wrestling and the Olympics
