When I was a little kid, I believed that couples wanting a divorce returned to the church where they got married and performed the marriage ceremony in reverse. I thought the divorce ceremony was just like an inverse function of the marriage ceremony.

Jesus, I wish it were that easy... My ex and I didn't even fight over anything and filed all the papers at the beginning of the year...we STILL don't have our decree yet.

Nope. I always wondered why there was so much disharmony and sorrow in my parents marriage.

Life is complicated, so goes divorce. So many reasons, feelings, and collateral impact, especially on children. Been there done that, and the lawyer cost . But all said and done, I'm in the most wonderful relationship with my soulmate an if the past had to be to get here, Its more than worth it.

Well fuck me that's depressing. Getting married is super easy but getting divorced is fucking insane. I just found out that even if my ex doesn't ask for any of my assets the judge could still decide I might have to pay since I was the smart one and already heavily invested for my retirement.

But when I was a kid I thought if you sold your house then you had to move into the house of the family who bought your home. And by a kid I mean I thought that was how it worked until I was a teenager since I never knew anyone who moved.

I think that's a good way to look at it. For a long time I was in denial about needing to get divorced because it made me feel like I had failed at a major part of my life. Sometimes we have to learn things the hard way to get to a better place.

Not quite the same, but when I was a kid I thought that I'd have to leave all my toys behind when we moved house (for the new people who moved in); I was quite relieved to find out that I could take them with me!

A good entertainment at a dinner with friends is to reveal all the things you thought that turned out to be wholly stupid. My favorite is my brother who thought the gasoline you got at the gas station was all stored inside the pumps. He also thought people were buried inside the gravestones.

Divorce -- done it twice. Don't give up Leila. I ended up finding my soul mate. These early mistakes are learning experiences. And talking about it to someone doesn't make it sink in. They have to learn themselves. It doesn't make you a failure - though I thought so at the time.

Ya know, I vaguely remember believing that when I was a kid, too. Thanks for bringing back a distant memory, Leila!

Sorry about the divorce mess.

Update, finally got my decree a couple weeks ago. Ended up losing a chunk of my disability because I'm not "head of household" anymore. I don't have someone "relying" on my disability money... Cuz you know, I guess the wife couldn't generate income or something!?
