In recent months, Elmo and Lucy have told me that people have asked for oil coverage videos. The problem is that oil is bad for drains. What's the best way to execute this type of video, and dispose of the oil, or should I stock up with drain unblocker?
I'd be intrigued to learn about this too. I'm excited to try playing in oil but disposing of such a high amount worries me that I'll end up with a whole bunch of problems afterwards!!
How it's safe to do this depends on your exact drainage arrangements.
Here we have combined drains - the rainwater and the sewer water combine into the same pipe to the mains sewer - most older systems will be like this, as it was how the Victorians and Edwardians did things by default. More modern systems separate the foul and rainwater drains.
With a combined system the house drains go to the same pipe as the toilet drain, which can usually handle quite a lot. We spent a day doing oil shoots the other month, 7 or 8 litres per girl per scene (and they were two-girl scenes), washed it all down the dungeon drain, no problem. However it was each time flushed out with gallons of hot water from the hosedowns, mixed with huge amounts of fairy liquid. Since then we've had several hefty downpours so hundreds of gallons off the roof flusing the pipes out too.
