This is my first time getting pied. Does the smell go away after one shower, or does it take several? And what's the best pie substance to use to avoid smelling bad afterwards (besides shaving cream)?

If you clean up real well the smell does not linger too bad. The biggest issue I have had is with pie in the nose. That smell doesn't leave and there is that hint of pie stuff there for a few days even if you rinse out your nose and stuff. Hopefully you will get to pie your wife as well.

Dish soap helps cut grease and lemon juice helps as well. Baking soda and vinegar scrub for tub and clothes to soak it
I like cool whip and mix w sugar or marshmallow fluff or caking icing or pudding etc to thinken it
Heavy cream I feel does have a better splatter when I mix it with stuff

Acne pads or alcohol on a cotton ball to wipe the face helps.

You're right about the smell in the nose. That is a little harder to get rid of.

To mirror Masteragoatis, cool whip is your friend. It's non dairy and oil based. For cleanup we use a loofa and a loofa. It breaks down oils perfectly, but it'll dry your skin. So be sure to lotion afterwards.
