Would anyone be interested in seeing girls gunged wearing actual movie costumes?
Not copies or "based on", but actual outfits which had been worn in real productions, bought from prop auctions?
Am toying with bidding on some rather nice jumpsuit / industrial outfits from a big budget blockbuster for our people to play in, but wondering if worth the cost.
Note that movie costumes may be deliberately "distressed" to suit the character's role, so may be scuffed / stained / marked.
I'm pretty sure it's not worth spending real money on.
The whole Wam Cosplay angle has it's intrigues, but it walks a fine, narrow line between what we want and what we'll get in the end...it's also counterproductive from most serious cosplayers point of view.
Example: Zatanna Zatarra, In my head, one of the sexiest costumes imaginable for a good messy magic show debut... BUT. Random piecemeal getup consisting of fishnets, vest, and top hat, do not a Zatanna make. When it comes to the realization of a primarily fantasty based concept to begin with, there's ample room to be let down.
Cosplayers want the best Costumes with the best presentation possible,
Wammers want the same, but then to wreck them as well.
It's rare that you can get the Quality from both sides to actually converge to make something truly good, and in this case with "movie costumes" Unless you got the makeup artists to go with them, I'm really just not sure what to expect other than a jumpsuit used on a film set at some point...
It's a great idea, but I just doubt it's worth the cost you might incur.
andypandy said: I would love to see girls gunged wearing authentic movie costumes, as opposed to those cheap fancy shop imitations or slutty versions of the costume, but I think the idea of buying the real outfit and having that ruined is wasteful.
If I had to pick, i would LOVE to see a series where authentic female ghostbusters and get slimed and stripped (and possibly slimed again!)
Agree with you completely on the fancy dress shop stuff - the only things we've ever bought from those kind of places are PVC costume opera gloves, the actual costumes are rarely up to much.
The auction I was thinking of bidding on was for outfits from Pacific Rim, there were some female ground crew uniforms consisting of boilersuits with jumpers and t-shirts under and jackets on top, plus work boots, belts, detailing, etc - when I first looked they were going for $50 to $70 but with still 5 days to go. I was busy shooting what were probably our last outdoor wetlook scenes of the season over the weekend but on looking at the auction again now, the female outfits have all expired but the few remaining male ones have been bid up to over $200 (in some cases well over), which is beyond budget anyway, and I suspect the female ones probably went for the same or more. Update: They did - this one went for over $1000.
I've attached a couple of images from the auction - I love this outfit!
In all honesty, you should leave the costumes as they are and just mess up some imitations. #1 - It's not worth the cost IMO for what you would get out of the scene. #2 - I can't imagine that collectors or fans would really approve of possibly ruining movie memorabilia.
