I would love to open my own store here on UMD. But I don't really have the knowledge and the possibilities to do this on my own, but I have many ideas for wetlook, messy and sexy gameshows and games. So what I want to ask now is if there is someone who has the possibilities and knowledge and want to open a store (or even has one already) and want to have me as a partner for the ideas for some gameshow styled video series.
I'm not a producer, so my opinion might not be worth much. However, I don't think you're going to get anyone leaping at the opportunity.
I've seen similar suggestions elsewhere, e.g. someone approaches a writer and says "I've got a great idea for a novel! You write the book, then we'll split the money 50:50." Or approaching a programmer and saying "I've got a great idea for an app! You just need to write it, then we can split the money." In each case, the idea is the easy bit, and producing the finished product is the hard bit. JMS wrote an article about this: https://www.janefriedman.com/you-cant-sell-an-idea/
In the case of WAM, think about the distribution of effort. The existing producer will: * Own/hire a studio. * Book the models, and pay their fees upfront (before they get any money from customers). * Prepare all the mess in advance, and handle the clean-up afterwards. * Sort out lighting, filming, and editing.
What are you offering in return?
On a more positive note, I'd encourage you to look at producers who offer customs. That way, you can pay them to turn your idea into a video.
If you're just looking to get messy and enjoy a few ideas/fantasies you have floating around, you could approach a few existing studios and offer to model for them (possibly covering expenses to start with), or record a few amateur scenes at home to sell yourself to a studio. This would also give you an idea of how feasable your ideas are.
If you want this- be prepared to do a lot of the initial legwork yourself. This involves investing your time and money- committing to getting your dreams in motion, with no guarantee that they'll take flight.
Do you have any camera equipment? doesn't have to be the massive kit, even an action cam/GoPro or two would be a good start. Do you need lighting? time to hit eBay etc
Do you have a suitable studio space? You need to fit your cameras, lighting in as well as space for your mess. Doesn't need to be massive- just not a poky cupboard where you struggle to stay in shot/not kick the camera over.
Video editing software and the time to do it?
What are your goals for the studio? Is this a fun hobby that'll cover its own expenses or a serious business enterprise to turn a profit?
I knew that it's something that will possibly never happen, I also thought about customs, but because the fact that I'm sick since many years now and can't work, means I don't have the money for it. And that also means I can't do it by myself. I know that the producer has massive costs, that's why I never thought about splitting money 50:50, just a small amount of it, because, like I said, the producer has all the costs. I have a little bit experience in community support and advertising stuff in forums and a little bit on Facebook, I maybe I could help with that a little bit, but because of the fact that I'm sick and have unforeseeable better and worse periods, I'm not always the most reliable at the moment, but I hope that will change some time in the future. Before all this happened I thought about starting to be a photographer (not for WAM stuff, just a "normal" photographer), because I like photographing stuff or people.
I won't post my ideas for everyone to see here on the forum, but if someone who is really interested in doing something want to get a small idea of my ideas (sounds great ) and can say that he/she won't do anything with the ideas without me giving my yes, then please send me a PM.
My goal is to make those ideas happen and a few people happy with it, that's all, if I should earn money from it it's great, if not, then it is like that, but like I said, I don't really have money to spend for it.
More generally, it depends what your ideas are. In particular, are you talking about the messy or non-messy aspects?
For instance, here's an idea for a gameshow: the contestants have to answer questions, and they get 1 point for each correct answer. However, there's a number written inside a sealed envelope, and the winner is the person who gets a score closest to that number, not necessarily the highest score. NB I'm not saying that this is a good idea, it's just an example I came up with off the top of my head!
However, take a look at this thread: https://umd.net/forums/do-you-watch-wam-videos-with-sound-or-so A lot of people will mute the videos and/or fast forward to the point where someone gets messy. So, any creativity in the quiz would be completely irrelevant to them.
On the messy side, it's difficult to come up with something that's completely new. I could think of elaborate scenarios, e.g. someone who sits in a chair above a trapdoor, and gets gunge poured over them for each wrong answer. Eventually, the extra gunge will make them heavy enough to trigger the trapdoor, so that they'll fall through the hatch, land on a trampoline, and bounce into a giant pie.
That would work fine in a story, but I couldn't actually build something like that, and it would be a pretty major undertaking for any producer. (The key point being that it needs to be safe; you don't want anyone breaking an arm/leg when they're flung around.)
So, the main variety seems to come from the substances involved.
My ideas are mostly about the gameshow aspect of it, to make it more entertaining and with new stuff, so that you really want to see the show too and not just the end of it. The water, gunge or whatever will mostly be used as a penalty for losing or making some mistakes. Safety is a thing I always think about with my ideas, even if I sometimes have ideas that maybe could get dangerous, then I put a questionmark on it because it depends on what ideas I will have in future to make it safe or what we can do to make it safe with the stuff that can be used.
I would also say that some of my ideas also work perfectly fine in, just say, a usual backyard, for others you need a real location and some stuff that you usually don't have in your backyard or home.
