Hey everyone, I was surfing around this website before and had an idea for the end of 2014. What I thought could be a cool thing would be sort of like an UMD Award Show for this year. Basically I was thinking there could be categories that could be made up for this(off the top of my head: Favorite WAM Model, Favorite Studio, Best Pie taken, etc.), then users would nominate models/videos/etc, next I would narrow it down to the top 5 or so most suggested nominees and everyone could vote on what they think should win. I know I'm not great at explaining things, but hopefully you understand what I'm getting at. I really don't know if this is a good idea or not, but in my head I can see it being successful. I am not planning on going forward with this unless people are interested. So does anyone have any feedback???? -Jonathan
I remember Chainsaw John and his awards. Poor guy spent how many hours trying to make it work... But the whole thing was plagued with people voting more than once, on more than one account. Plus the whole "what categories should be included?" question caused huge arguments, along with what producers should be in which categories. (what defines "amateur"? comes to mind.) Just the nominations caused arguments, never mind the actual winners.

Yes. Seems innocent enough, but this Awards idea has actually backfired before -- see the third paragraph in this thread: http://umd.net/forums/running_joke#390642. CSJ was a good contributor whose bravado and enthusiasm made him a bit of a lightning rod. Along with the WAM Awards I think he even made a WAM video game. Below is a graphic he put together just for the hell of it. I'm pretty sure he is still active here, but has changed his profile identity in part due to all that drama -- can't really blame him. The Forum is a lot mellower now so it would be interesting to see how things went. But just letting you know that what starts out as a positive endeavor could lead to a thankless task weighed down by accusations of "unfairness".

Haha... that fake magazine cover was actually drawn up by me! It was a rip off of Rolling Stone, for a completely unrelated thread several years ago. I thought it had been lost to the annals of time on these forums, but I still have it in the recesses of my PC. The picture is of course Ariel; one of my favourite of her, and one of her really early sets. (I began using this forum when Ariel first began posting to it... We were both around 18 at the time.) Anyway, sorry to go off topic.
Oh, my bad! Sorry Labyrinth I must have associated it with CSJ because of the headline at the top. Nice job, especially where her head overlaps the lettering
Like others have said, it started off with good intentions and backfired in so many ways it was unreal! Poor CSJ! He just tried to show some appreciation to the producers and models and got cluster-f**ked!
Well I'm kind of brand new here so I haven't heard of Chainsaw John or anything he did. But I think I can handle the problems he had. First of all, it doesn't seem that hard to find a website where you can only vote once (perhaps enter your username so you can't do it multiple times). Second, we would just have to decide the categories beforehand and say "these are the categories, go vote like them or not" or something like that. Third, reading the link from smess, I don't think I'm the type of person that is "Fond of mentioning in passing how many females he'd met and sploshed with via the UMD". So I am tentatively going forward with this, I'll let you know when I figure out the categories. Thanks! -Jonathan
So if I've been reading correctly, the previous attempt of this wasn't great due to unfairness of many different things. In order to make sure I don't get the same accusations, I have decided to make up a committee of people that will help me make up the categories then decide on the nominations. Some people might not like it because they don't have any input, but I think it's the best way to do it fairly. There needs to be an odd number of people on this committee to break any ties and I think 3 is too small and 7 is too large, so 5 people it is. I'm not looking for much from these members. All I want is some creativity (for creating the categories), some good WAM knowledge (so the nominees are good), someone who will check their messages on a normal basis, making it very easy to communicate. If you are interested on being on this committee, just inbox me. Hope this is good for everyone! -Jonathan
I remember the previous WAM awards too, ISTR it worked OK for a while, before the whole thing derailed in the pile-up people are remembering?
The forum is a lot mellower these days, so it will be interesting to see how this goes. Though needless to say if someone from Saturation Hall doesn't win "Best fully clothed muddy butt in denim", and all the "best female model in overalls" categories, then clearly the whole thing will have been rigged.

fair enough. I just want to win "best mustache in a wam video" (Winston wadsworth, Pied and Predudice)
And "best original parody song in a wam video" (Meathook Abernathy, the new adventures of wamerica woman.)
and I'll keep my fingers crossed for "best robot" and "best garbage bag wall".....
In the committee (4 of us and Jonathan), we were split on if we should allow the users some say in the categories or if that would cause too much argument. We came to a compromise that we would come up with the main categories and see if anyone had some good ideas for fun categories that are more specific (not as general as something like best WAM model). So if you have a creative idea for a smaller category, go to the survey below and fill it out. Thanks!

I normally filter out "background noise", but I do remember CSJ and his awards.
The "controversial" part of the award process, as I recall (and guys correct me since it has been so long) or maybe it's my opinion, is that there was some evaluative elements of producer's work, and now you can just imagine what how fans on opposing sides would react to that, how to make things fair, etc... oh the headache
I think the Tellygunge awards are slightly different, in the sense it is all public-domain non-producer material. So if Domingo Legal / Passa ou Repassa does not win the 2014 Award for Best Messy Show (which it should!!!!!), it's not going to start a neverending flame war.
