Occasionally, I'll see a video in which the girl who's about to get messy is wearing a wig. Personally, I find this a turnoff. I'd much rather see her own hair getting messy along with the rest of her.
In my opinion, wearing a wig is about the same as wearing a shower cap or eye goggles.
I'm wondering; does anyone else feel the same about this?
As with most things in WAM, it depends on the context.
Not many people have Cruella de Vil hair, and even fewer would be willing to have such an expensive hairdo gunged. So if someone wants to see someone gunged wuth a full Cruella look, chances are the model will be wearing a wig.
There are also some very sexy fetish models who wear absolutely gorgeous wigs.
Plus of course there's then the wonderful "wigwam" pun to be made.
It's also going to depend on the individual viewer - different people will have different tastes. There are bound to be some folk out there to whom a shower cap and goggles would be the sexiest things a model can wear to be gunged in, and there's nothing wrong with that.
I do think descriptions should be honest though - if a model is wearing a wig it should be stated in the description so people who would have an issues with it can find out before they buy.
I've found that they've grown on me as of late. Either I don't notice them, or don't find they detract from the overall scene. Sometimes they're near essential for a particular look, especially in cosplay scenes.
Right but also presumably for your customs, it must follow all of the specifications of your custom, which is what makes it a custom, yes? Or is there something here I'm not tracking?
For me in general, I'm not a wig guy, but my tastes are already niche enough so I don't see a point in raging against wigs, just like I don't rage against other things that don't push my buttons. To each their own, I like to say (and I definitely am the first human to say that ever).
For me, if it is OBVIOUSLY a wig, then that's a turn off. My understanding is that a number of models out there wear them, but they weren't obvious to me, so I guess I wasn't bothered by it? I prefer the perception that a woman's real hair or is getting messed up. But as long as my perception isn't foiled, I'm okay with the wig.

Yes for my customs specifically because I always like the mess mixed in very well with the mess.
However if I see a video and it rocks, and if its not glaring its a wig I don't care but if its an obvious wig (Some look better than others for sure) then I pretty much pass.

I don't know. I did work with one model who had hair extensions. Is that a wig? I thought it looked very natural, and if she hadn't have told me that it wasn't her hair, I wouldn't have known.
She didn't get all the way to full coverage. In my world, that is achieved by full submersion in the mudpit. But the false hair still took a slathering.
Anyway, after the shoot, she emailed me to say that no amount of washing got everything out and she had to have all of them removed.
I've bought a couple of scenes with wigs, like Messygirl's Jani slime video a few weeks back, but I still have to lie to myself and pretend it's not a wig in order to enjoy it
Well, as someone pointed out: if you don't notice the wig, it shouldn't make any difference...so, the key factor is: how realistic the hair looks (context too: does it work with the model [face and head shape], the scene?)....Also: the more expensive wigs use real hair, so, the wig hair 'behaves' the same when being gunged or messed up.
...here's Ivy in three different scenes with her natural hair and two different wig styles (the darker haired one she totally rocked, I think)...then the pied shots of each.
I do agree. I am a hair person, so wearing wigs is a big turnoff for me. I love seeing a girl's real hair get trashed and I feel a wig just covers up the best part of a sliming.
