So which supplier has hands down the cheapest slime and cheapest shipping to the United States? I'm looking for something similar to the messy supplies natrosol which is a good deal just gets expensive after several back to back purchases
Can't directly answer, but if you were interested in Xanthan gum-based gunge you can make your own by finding it in a health food shop (it's used as a gluten substitute) and diluting it in warm water. Can be coloured (or colored) with poster paint.
A ton of it will only run you about $3,000 (about $3.30/kg) and should probably be enough to last for at least the rest of your lifetime. If you have any left over, you can leave it for future generations.
Natrasol is a variation on corn starch, which can be found at your grocer's store. It's in the baking aisle near flour and corn meal. It's pretty cheap, and a little goes a long way.
HOWEVER...
It's a little trickier than simply adding to water. You'll want to dissolve it in hat water, then pour the hot water into cold water.
Corn starch is made of long strings of sugars, which get relaxed in hot water, then, after cooling down, get tangled back up. That's what gives it it's gloopiness. It's the same concept behind gelatin, which uses protiens instead of sugars.
Xanthum gum is a bit pricier than cornstarch, but it's also more effective. So effective that you can't just put it in water and call it a day. From what I understand, if you just put it in water, it will cake up. It should first be dissolved in oil to give the xanthum gum a chance to disperse.
As I go through a lot of supplies in a year, I've researched alternatives to my current supplies list, which could maintain high-quality splattering while being inexpensive.
Our easy mix HEC Gunge / Slime is as easy to use and a lot cheaper than Natrosol. Its a generic Hydroxy Ethyl Cellulose that we think produces a more opaque Gunge than Natrosol. Our prices our £12.99 for 30 litres / 3 buckets of coloured Gunge.
I also have bulk Carboxy Methyl Cellulose that we collected back in November, this should produce a "Lazy Gunge" that doesn't need much mixing but unfortunately I had an accident with my hand and was in hospital so have not had the opportunity to play with this yet and get the calculations on quantities together.
We've used Tylose Hydroxy Ethyl Cellulose before and can vouch for it. I'd guess that would be cheaper than importing from the UK.
For those that have asked, we should have our Methyl Cellulose available in the next week or so. It's likely we'll sell it in bulk kg packs rather than coloured.
