Hi! I try not to do this, but this one is driving me nuts. I could swear that in the last year or so on a forum (it might not have been this one), I saw an incredible scene. It was from a (German, I think, or maybe Polish, Czech) version of Cinderella. It was a night scene, and the fairy godmother was talking to a female character (Stepsister? Or Cinderella herself?) in a courtyard with a white arch. I assume the dialogue is that she's offered a wish, and wishes for something like wealth. From the sky comes something that looks like chocolate or oil, pouring over her head, and she relishes in it, as if she thinks money is raining down on her. She's in white, clearly of age, and a lovely brunette. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? I had no luck on the forum search with terms like "Cinderella," "Fairy," "Godmother," and "Aschenputtel."
I was pretty sure that I saved the vid, but I can't find it anywhere.
Thanks to anyone who remembers what I'm referring to.
I haven't found it yet--tomorrow, I'll check my old computer. But, in my search, I found this video where Cinderella is played by a lovely Turkish/German actress who was in her mid-20's at the time of filming. At the 7 minute mark, she falls face-first into mud, and is shown with it on her face through a long scene into the next, then, about the half-hour point, she is doused in flour. There may be even more WAM, I wasn't watching it carefully.
You're looking for the stroy called "Frau Holle" in German or "Miss Hulda" in English. I know what scene you are looking for but can't find it either. But this is another version. Just look up the following links! The scene is at the and of the movie. Minute 16. http://youtu.be/6DRz7mLpeyQ
You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar! Seriously, thanks so much for this. I asked because I epent a bunch of hours searching my drives for it, because some things just stick in my head. Unfortunately, the real title hadn't. Thanks again! Myds
From what I've been able to tell, this is a kind of Cinderella story, where instead of a ball, there's a magic land, and instead of a prince, there's gold...and not getting slimed. The good stepdaughter goes to the magic land and helps the magic old woman there with her chores, and is rewarded by gold. The bad, lazy daughter goes, refuses to help with the chores, and is sent back home covered in a magical slime that doesn't wash off until the magic being wants it to wash off.
It's one of those cautionary tales about how, "good girls who do their house chores will be rewarded," as I guess Cinderella is as well. It seems to me the movies I saw as a child always cast the wicked stepsisters types as comically ugly, but there seems to have been a trend in central and eastern Europe of using fairly pretty actresses for these kinds of roles. Definitely better to my taste than the way they cast the "good" stepsister. What's also neat is that this whole story is really just the buildup to the gunging. Usually mess is incidental at best in a script.
Also, it has elements of the "Villainess Comeuppance" thing, but the villainess isn't really so despicable, and her punishment isn't gruesome or overmuch.
The one you posted is maybe the best--there's plenty of post, the actress is very pretty...nice scene--here's a clearer version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8NhqNBNmqc
