Was out and about today I saw a woman setting up an art exhibit. She setup several buckets of slime and a yoga mat. She was dancing and got people to throw slime on her whilst performing.
Most people looked at her if she was bonkers. I had a go but she told me not to take a photo.
Has WAM become art?
Out of all the things I've seen this was weird and I am from the city that has the sky whale.
Has wam become ART...you ask? This forum fairly regularly features threads that include 'arty wam images and commentary on the use of wam in ART and the preferences of some for artistic wam, etc.....Over the years, there have been probably a dozen or so threads (with photos) about artists (curiously, mostly female artists; a very few male artists) using wam either in installation and/or performance art (or both)....there's usually some sort of socio-political point or perspective involved in these artworks....not sure why it is mostly females...perhaps most males reflexively see the erotic appeal and/or salirophilic gratification inherent in wam and thus either avoid its use in Art works, or, incorporate artistic elements into their erotic wam imagery [i.e., the erotic is not separated from the visual aesthetic)... back in the 1980's, it was Karen Finley (a NEA grant awardee) who made a controversial name for herself by doing 'performance art' in which she covered herself with chocolate (meant to symbolize 'filth' and how we view women) and honey (not sure what that symbolized)...since then, many artists have taken up the use of wam in their artworks....most of which are performance art pieces; perf art has a long tradition of using messy effects.
