I don't know about cream, but I have used dairy free custard (Alpro soya based). Felt and looked exactly like normal custard, but without the dairy smell.
It still smelt very strongly of vanilla at the time, but after showering and washing down the surfaces the vanilla smell was gone from the room. It will still make YOU smell faintly of vanilla for a day or too though lol, being such a strong scent. But that is easily waved away by buying a vanilla scented shower gel
I've not tried getting messy with foodstuffs before, for this very reason. I have always assumed that there will be a lingering smell in the air, not to mention on my person. I once had a foodfight at a sixthform team building workshop many years back, and I couldnt get rid of the smell of tomatoes for days, to the point where now I still really dont like the smell of raw tomatoes
I usually prefer to make slime/gunge sessions, and I've tried a few thickeners, from xanthan to guar gum, and they all have a mild smell, but I havent found any lingering smells after having sessions, so long as I wash up well
I also use one of those room diffusers with quite a strong smell, to try to mask any other odours, although its not perfect. Living with non-wammers can be very hard
