so since I live in the city its hard to find mud so I was wondering where I could find clay in stores is their any specific places that sell it and is it hard to clean up if I do this in a bath tub?
Ditto to Helloboi's response - clay can permanently clog you drains if too much of it heads that way (believe me, I know). Rather than using the tub, purchase a cheap kiddie pool, then just throw everything away when you're finished.
Hello. I'll chime in on this topic. I currently have a 5 X 10 foot inflatable pool full of ceramic clay that I purchased in dry form from a local ceramic supply store. Of the many types of clay, I recommend Kaolin (white), Redart (red oxide color), and Barnard or Albany (very dark brown). This dry clay ("clay flour") comes in many sizes. A small kiddie pool could be about 5 inches deep with 4-5 50lb bags. I've just emptied the 22nd bag into my pool, which means 1100 pounds of dry clay plus the water to make it smooth and thick like peanut butter. For years I used the smaller rigid plastic pools, and them the inflatable ones were a big improvement. I have a temporary tent over it for privacy and to minimize leaves and other debris getting in. Having it in the backyard is very convenient. I often wallow in it daily!!

Do you keep the same clay or do you replenish as needed?
I will keep the same clay in the pool until I dismantle it when the weather turns colder. More clay is added as it gradually gets depleted from slinging outside the pool bounds, and what is still on bodies as they exit the pool. I am very thorough with picking out leaves, any insects, and prohibiting all bodily fluids. All sexual explosions are promptly scooped out and discarded. The clay stays smooth and odorless, and becomes thicker over a few days. Adding water makes it slick and splattery again. Sometimes you want splashes and drips, and sometimes you want its thickness to clutch and suck you in.
