I'm trying to find a good spot to film some content, so I would like to find out where the best mud spots in the UK are? Can be swamp mud, quarry mud, estuary mud, I don't mind. Just as long as it's good consistency. Thanks WAM fans!
The best mud in the UK is along the Avon estuary near Bristol. The Avon has the second highest tide range anywhere in the world which results in huge deep rich brown mudbanks, ideal for playing in, though it's worth doing some exploration to find out accessibility, seclusion, etc. There used to be a good location underneat the M5 motorway fly-over, but the last time I passed that way - admitidly a good few years back - the former wasteland behind it had become a Traveller encampment.
Just down the coast from the Avon is Clevedon, which has a gorgeous Victorian cast iron pier, below which is some of the most wonderful creamy mud I've ever encountered. No use for personal playing as it's in full view of the resort and pier but has potential for producion use if your models aren't fussed about having an audience. Though you'd need to be careful with the camera angles to ensure no spectators end up on the footage. Definitely worth an explore to look at.
There are also famous deep mud spots around Foulness in Essex - don't let the name put you off. I believe these are where some of the old Splosh mud content was filmed, with very black mud.
Assuming you're based in the South I'd check both Bristol and Foulness out. There are other locations further North but with every mile you travel the temperature drops and the weather becomes less predictable.
Hey, I second the above, Severn estuary is one of the best places in the UK for many oppertunties of tidal mud flats. From where it becomes tidal from Gloucester onwards there can be mud banks. Weston, Sand Bay, Brean, Burnham have muddy beaches although care must be taken and tide times observed. As some of the areas are tourist spots accomodation/showers are plentiful.
