First it's Pi Day, so grab your foam, custard, gooey pies and splat away people.
But now to the question, and one that has probably been asked 3.1415927 times before.
What do people find is the best holder for a pie? Is it a nice paper plate, a foil pie tray, just a crust or something else. Do you think that the type of pie holder gives a different type of splat?
Think it would be interesting to see what people think
Voted "paper plate" but in fact the best is a paper bowl. Fill with a can of custard and top with squirty cream, then splat in face, contains enough filling to deliciously drip down the recipients clothes, and the bowl is easily and quickly slid/dropped/pulled out of the way so we can see the full result.
In the early days we used flan bases but they added way too much dry texture to things. Sloppier is messier, so sloppier is better.
Voted for foil case as it's deep, so it can hold a lot of foam in ready for a big faceful. Paper plates are a classic and easy to use, plus there's something nice about a plate of foam stuck to your face
Thanks all that have voted (so far), it's very interesting that crust pastry is way ahead. I must admit that I've not tried a crust based pie myself, but from the response, I'm going to have to give it a blast.
I tend to go with a paper plate. Usually with custard and cream, or foam.
Also, like the comment about a paper bowl as well.
