I've always wondered just how healthy the mud might be there. As when I'm picking spots to get muddy, I've usually tried to get at least a few miles from major habitation in the hope that wastewater etc will at least have had a good amount of dilution.

Yup...you could get something like e coli from playing in mud that's not entirely "mud". Yet another thing to take into consideration when looking for your play spots.
I guess you could always look at some of the German "Watt Olympiad" events if you were looking for muddy events in a place with more stringent environmental standards.
