Something like this scares the shit out of me. There are many pictures and and a few videos of me in here that include my face, which I've made the decision to make available for anyone in the community who may enjoy seeing an amateur having fun. I figure if someone is in here, it's their thing too...someone at work isn't gonna say to me in a department meeting "Hey, you really seemed to be enjoying those eggs," knowing I can say to him, "Oh cool, so you're into WAM too, how long have you been on UMD?" But it's a much different story if someone sees a clip or pic on a vanilla TV show where they're making fun of it, and doing nothing to hide faces.
I see both sides on this. On the negative side, although they did blur faces (or only showed clips with people already covered) they definitely did not blur out the youtube names, so hopefully nothing terrible comes from that exposure.
On the plus side, casual exposure does reduce stigma. And perhaps there are people out there who actually like this and can now put a name to a fetish.
As for the jokes themselves, that's just how Tosh operates. These were pretty tame by his standards and being a fan, I think it lands in the zone of just "look at this its different" rather than "these people are actually disgusting."
For those concerned though: just remember that nobody cares that much. That couple minutes is probably all most people will ever think about it--possibly their whole life. IMO nobody should panic because of this, but definitely defend your privacy. If faces are a problem, avoid clean face pictures. Don't put up your location if you think your city/region is too small. There is a feature that will hide you from people who do not have accounts. Take advantage of what you need to.
These guys contacted me sometime ago requesting I appear on to do a live skit on their show. Spent sometime on the phone with their producer answering some questions, (he seemed curious and I think they intended to poke fun rather than be nasty.) They were offereing $750 to appear, plus paying for flights to LA, but after considering it I declined. While my content is public, it's mostly only found by people who want to look at it, and I didn't want such a large audience to see it.
I am more than a bit annoyed as I expressly said I didn't want to appear that they have now featured my channel very prominently.
I still have the producers email, so will complain to him, and see if I get an response. If anyone else wishes to get the contact information if they have been featured then please feel free to PM me and I'll pass it along. I presume I wasn't the only one they contacted so who knows.
It would be interesting to have a UMD wiki or running list of news and video program references to gunge/wam/messy play just to keep track of what's being shared and in what angle. This is partially to take pride in the fact our content is getting notice, while on the other hand being terrified that it's in the limelight.
Much of my thoughts have already been said - with on one side, this is not a very big deal and most people will just quickly laugh and move on, but on the other side advanced facial recognition and online tagging is going to make privacy disappear very quickly, especially in light of once it's shared, it's out there.
I also think this discussion blends nicely with another recent forum post on "why we share"

Honestly, being exposed is one of my fears. I only go to places that are:
A. Public property (parks, game lands, etc) B. Secluded (my main spot is at the end of a disused hunting trail)
I have a collection of videos on YouTube that can only be found through DeepSinkingGuyz... and some that are public on YouTube. I made a decision today to make all of them unlisted.
I have a lot more to lose if I'm caught than some because of the nature of my work. A trespassing charge can and would lead to a loss of security clearance. This makes finding manure (along with other challenges, mainly my BF's reservations about it) very difficult.
