Lately I've been experimenting with designing a spring-loaded "surprise box" style prop and testing different mechanisms (hinges, springs, release levers, sliding platforms, etc.)
Curious if anyone here has built similar contraptions/mechanical props before.
I'd really love to see a conveyor belt scenario or two. I've only seen it once or twice (pies fall off the end onto a woman who's tied up underneath it). But a real proper pour while it's moving...think the Talking Heads video "Love For Sale" with Tina Weymouth being turned into a chocolate bar. That'd be amazing.
I wonder if we could get MessMaster to create a group for "WAM Contraptions". Or start a discord or something? I know I've scoured the messy forums searching for what people have built. I only really mess around with shaving cream as I don't want to deal with cleanup of any other substances. I have not built anything freestanding yet but have experimented with:
* Catapult - a plastic fly swatter makes an excellent mini-launcher for piles of shaving cream. Would be easy to build it into something a little bit more free standing with some pvc pipe. * Syringes - you can get massive syringes (up to 1L) off of Amazon. Fill with a slurry of cream and water. Can be connected with tubing. * Cream cannon - I found a nice no-build option is to take 2 plastic cups that nest tightly and cut a small hole in the side of one, near the bottom. Fill that cup with foam/water, and then push the other cup down into it. The cream will squirt out of the side. I would love to build some kind of cream cannon like FruitKitty has in some of his videos. * Gunge tanks - I see the gungetank maker has already replied!

fruitkitt brought his pie catapult contraption to the Vegas event a few years ago. It was a BIG HIT! Pun intended. Everyone who wanted, took a turn as the target. It was a blast!
Seriously wish he was attend the WAM Vegas event next week and bring it!
I haven't though I love the concept. This issue is mostly space as it seems you can build some rough catapults or such for pies out of PVC or such.
That's not to say you can't do something simple like a bunch of filled balloons, a tack, and a plastic tub with a couple holes in it above you in a shower. It's just if you are going full mechanical, why not do it properly.
