I've been getting a lot of people asking me about this new mud spot that I found in SoCal, so I decided to make a separate post to explain more.
First, the place is owned by Holliday Rock Co. And this business is all over SoCal, but this is the only one with an accessible mud quarry, and yet this specific spot isn't marked on any map, meaning it doesn't have an address to search up on a map. I used the mud map you all probably know about to find this location. An easy way to find it on Google or Apple Maps is to use the address of Ford of Upland, and you should see the mud quarry directly above it. It's in Upland California right below San Antonio Heights.
Next is when to go there. This place shares business hours of the other Holliday Rock Co. places. It's open Monday through Fridays, from 8 AM to 5 PM. It's closed all day on Sundays, and that's when I usually go. It might also be closed on Saturdays, but I'm not completely sure. I haven't actually gone on a Saturday to see.
And now, how to actually get to the mud quarry. You can see on the first image that's the main entrance to the place, which will be closed by the time we want to go there. On the third image is the right side of the quarry area, which is like a suburban area. The red little pin that says mud play is where I usually park but you can also park anywhere in that area just as long as it's not in front of somebody's house or on their property. If you want to be extra safe, there's a shopping area below the Ford of Upland where you can park, but it's quite a long walk from there. Anyway, from Carol Ave walk-through that open area down to the edge of Cucamonga Creek, where you can see the 210 freeway. Then you have to walk past these rocks and bushes. You'll notice a path that will take you around it, walk on that path and you'll literally be at the edge of the fence for the Ford of Upland. (Be careful of the branches and some plants in your way) Then just climb over this big rock in the way and you'll officially be in the Holliday Rock area. Just continue walking down the path and up the hill, (you'll notice it when you see it) and you've made it.
I should also mention that there is a Pro and Con to this place.
Pro: There is actually more than one mud quarry pit in this area. I've only been in the main big one, but there are others and possibly with different textures. I definitely plan to try them out next time I go there.
Con: I have not found any type of water reservoir in the area. Maybe I haven't looked far enough, but everything is just mud from what I've seen. Which means you're gonna have to bring a lot of your own water and a lot of towels if you want to get clean when you're done. Even after I cleaned myself as much as I could, I still had to drive home covered in some dry mud before I could get home and jump in the shower. So just be prepared when you go there.
