Where do people find to swim in clothes? I know a couple of spots that are okayish in the summer (outdoor and secluded) but short of renting an air BNB with a pool what other options are there for the 9 months of the year the water is too cold?
im afraid unless you can take cold, this time of year its bath or shower, i live near a beach great in summer,as you can get candid, but its on the north sea so still chilled in height of summer, ponds and rivers are good in summer, or even a back garden inflated pool, keep water warm ish.
If youre in the US, because i dont know if this app is available outside the US, we use Swimply to rent pools for our shoots. some of them are even heated. far cheaper than airbnb, which feels like a giant scam anyway. With Swimply, we can get a pool for several hours, and they're pretty private for only $100-150.

i've considered this app before but i saw that the pool house is usually adjacent to the main house and the owner is usually home. do you ever feel awkward about using the pool for filming and photographing if it's not completely private?

Well, admittedly at first it was a bit odd, but we got over it almost right away. i find the best attitude to have about this is to just be open with them about why youre there. we tell our hosts that we do underwater photography and that we prefer privacy. We also tell them that we cant have anyone in our shots, so please have any curtains or windows closed. We've only ever had one host who didn't respect these requests, and we didn't revisit their pool. we did have one of our first hosts that consistently wasnt home when we would schedule or even have the pool be absolutely filthy, and we have to drive upwards of 2-3 hours per shoot since no pools are available in our town. its pretty frustrating because i put a lot of effort into packing and getting equipment ready, then of course driving, only for something that dumb to happen. However, id like to point out in the many times we've done this, we've only ever had two bad hosts.
Most of the time we build a good rapport with our hosts and sometimes they even leave the house while we're there if we've been there multiple times and are respectful of their house and rules. Oddly enough, when we DO have someone see us, it more piques their interest rather than weirds them out. ive caught several hosts staring at us when they come to check on us and you can tell they're thinking "oh, that looks kind of fun"
It's all about confidence to do it. i mean, really, when you think about it, you're not doing anything to be ashamed of. You're just swimming, but in clothes! no nudity, nothing explicit, nothing technically WRONG, just...a bit weird. i highly recommend it so long as you can work up the confidence to do this at a stranger's house. it really is a great app for people like us. if you go through my videos and pictures, nearly every one of them was shot at a rental pool. only a handful were shot at our home shower.
