I've often got the impression that there are two different views of what's most important in wetlook, is it the process of going from dry to wet - getting wet - or is it spending time in completely soaked clothes - being wet? So thought I'd do a poll.

Personally for me the most important and enjoyable bit, both to watch and to experience, is the getting wet, the look and feelings as the water engulfs the clothes - which also means I prefer scenes where people pour water over each other, or wade down into a pool or river, to ones where people jump in and go instantly from dry to soaked. But what does everyone else prefer?

I personally enjoy both parts, but I love the getting wet part and seeing how clothes become darker when wet. While I enjoy getting wet in clothes myself, my favorite part is when I jump into the pool and get soaked immediately and see that change in color. While I enjoy swimming around still after jumping in, that initial jump in is the most fun.

The slow and gradual getting wet is definitely a key part to me - it allows me to savour the sensations.

I definitely enjoy the being wet part as well, and will prolong that time as well, with air drying and maybe even re-wetting happening, at least when I can!

although i voted getting wet, which i do love the sensation of slowly feeling water change clothes and stick like a second skin, and often will do wet look for that reason, i also like a little play around, seeing the wet shine on the clothes, making sure they are full soaked, and heavy and getting out of the water feeling the it drip away and flow away.

Getting wet. After I'm soaked and depending on my mood, I'm laughing my head off at the predicament. Like I accidentally fall in a Foutain in the city centre?

If it's wintertime, raining and below 3 degrees C. I'm not laugh so much as confused as to why I thought I was such a good idea.

Yes, that last one is a very specific reference. I took a swim in the river while it was raining.

Both to some extent, but I voted getting wet. I also feel that there's an extra layer to this... the dry stage whereby you have the idea to get wet fully clothed, the thought process or maybe the sudden urge and spontaneity. I find the "Oh what the hell, I'm doing it" attitude a real turn on!

Thanks for all the answers and votes so far everyone, appreciated! Definitely looks as if "getting wet" is well in the lead, which matches with my preferences - so we'll continue shooting wetlook where "seeing the wetting happen in detail" is a main focus.


Now that's interesting, I've always assumed when people go for a sudden drenching like jumping into a pool, they aren't so much into the getting wet bit, more the being wet. Hadn't considered that a rapid soaking could be a desired thing in it's own right. Ta for the insight!


That's definitely how I tend to look at it, both on video, and when doing it myself, I like a slow but steady wetting where the outfit gets drenched in stages, I particulary like both doing, and watching, walking down a slope into ever-deeper water, and seeing/feeling it rising up legs, flooding crotch, engulfing waistline, and finally being neck-deep in the water and totally soaked.

And on a hot day it's great to get out of the water, dry off a bit - and then go back in for a second soaking. I tend to do that when doing wetlook shoots, as I'll be in the river with my people, often chest deep myself, and then when we finish one shoot and go back to the van, they'll change into dry outfits for the next scene but I'll just stay in my soaked overalls, which will dry a bit while the others are changing, and then I get to enjoy getting wet again when I go back into the water to shoot the next scene.


Now that's a very good point and know exactly what you mean. I've usually got a change of clothes in the van, and it was planning a proper session I'd change into them to get wet or messy and then change back afterwards - but sometimes I'll go out in what also ammounts to a wettable outfit, footwear that won't be damaged by water, and wearing swimwear instead of underwear underneath, so if the opportunity arises, I can get soaked in what I'm already wearing and change into the other outfit afterwards instead of the other way round. And that feeling of "I couuld just go in as I am" is indeed a nice prelude.

i absolutely love getting first and then staying wet. If it's raining, I love the process of my clothes becoming wet the longer i stay out in the rain, or just go jump in my pool to speed the process up. I love the cling that happens as i get wet and then stay wet!!

This is a spot on description of what I personally like to see!

I think both as well, but I love to mix up how I get wet - in public is better, with the humiliation factor - I've "accidentally" fallen into MANY pools in clothes - everything from jeans and hoodie to a lace slip with garter belt and stockings - always exciting, always brings laughter if in public. But sometimes a slow wetting - in the hose, wading in a creek then falling, or even in an "unmanageable" car wash sprayer! The feel of wet clothes is definitely something to linger with, though. I've done the "public" thing more than a private session, but both are great!
