So I had a messy session today and while it was great, the aftercare bit wasn't. I didn't really plan on how to get out the bath and unfortunately my lack of planning lead to a couple injuries. Thankfully nothing serious, just a bruise and a piece of a fingernail got ripped off and drew a bit of blood but nothing a plaster couldn't help heal.
But to save this from happening again what safety precautions should I take if I were to have another messy session in a bath to ensure a safe exit
Not sure on your setup - presumably you're leaving the bath to get into the shower?
Keep an old towel nearby to wipe your feet as you step out, keep your centre of gravity low, move slowly and have a pair of flip flops to slip your feet into to move around.
Sounds nasty - could have been worse though and I'm glad you're ok. I have used a damp towel and even a t-shirt to provide a bit of temporary friction in a couple of my sessions but should probably just pick up a cheap bath mat!
Have an old towel to step on to if climbing out to flush away whatever you have used.
Lots of people seem to use their baths for this so will be watching this thread for expert and probably really obvious (when you know how) tips.
Wear an old pair of trainers that you can wash off and not worry about ruining is possibly safest. A bathmat is also helpful. Have to say I am very careful now having slipped while just using the shower over the bath and dislocating my shoulder.
depending on how far you have to move from one spot to another, a few of those suction bath mats are brilliant (although in the bath itself it needs to be in before you get messy itself which is always a bit of a bummer.
Similarly wetsuit shoes are great to put on after a session too - they tend to have a grippy bottom and easily washable, so it's ideal to walk from one place to another when messy.
If its a bath with a shower on the wall, have the head of the shower hanging down, and practice reaching the controls without standing up. That way as soon as it's on you can wash feet and somewhere to stand to get clean nice and quickly
All of the ideas above are great! The only other thing I can think to add is to keep in mind where the bath faucet and soap dish are - I have accidentally hit those in the middle of a session. Also, don't grab the shower curtain holder - it's not very sturdy (ha).
