I've always had positive responses when I've used that phrase with other people. I looked it up in Wikipedia & the Urban Dictionary to see if there was some meaning that I was unaware of. Everything says exactly what I thought it would. Is there some difference in Germany that it has a different connotation? Or is it because you're a model and want to be more attractive/glamorous than the "girl next door"? Is it tied in with how you view yourself and how you want others to view you?
I use it to mean someone who's beautiful/cute and looks approachable, who's a natural beauty and doesn't need a lot of make-up to look gorgeous. As I said, in some pics you *do* look very glamorous, and you are beautiful & sexy.
Please help me to understand why it's considered "deeply insulting".

To me "girl next door" means someone without absurd fake tits and not wearing stripper make-up but I think some people interpreter it as looking "average".
Personally I find the phrase amusing, I have been turned down by producers because according to them having tattoos means I don't have a "girl next door look" which does seem to be preferred by a lot of people. However I do live next door to several people

yeah, how we use it here is more an avarage boring, not ugly but also not pretty girl.. but if you say it like that i understand

HI Eileen - how about a lovely, flowing, boho, cotton maxi (ankle length) dress? You don't see a huge number of maxi dresses or skirts in WAM, which is a shame as I think long cotton dresses/skirts look absolutely sensational when wet (and messy!).
