Another mainstream movie with a very prominent WAM-y scene that I have been meaning to mention.
I've misplaced my notes, but I think it's about 50-55 minutes into the newest DEATHSTALKER that the female lead winds up in a pool of muddy goop/gunk, and then stays messed up for a few minutes. It's a really cute, even funny, moment, and the actress (also very cute!) wears it well.
It's actually a very "goopy" movie overall -- by which I mean, if you grew up loving 1980s horror/fantasy/sci-fi that used a lot of KY/methylcellulose, neon/pastel slime and grunge, and gory/splattery effects, you will most certainly enjoy this movie. As you will, if you're at all a fan of the DEATHSTALKER franchise and/or that kind of Roger Corman-inspired sword and sorcery movie in general. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The director's other work all has a similar low budget but every-penny-is-up-on-the-sreen quality to it, all of them very goopy/gory (but I can't think of anything as satisfying as this scene, for WAM-lovers) and entertaining. If you like, say, Sam Raimi/EVIL DEAD type movies, you'd probably like this.
I think it's now streaming free on one of the platforms, and gets thumbs up from moi (and I'm pretty serious about separating good schlock from bad).
I managed to watch the movie and the scene is at the very end just before the end credits at around 1 hour 30 mins, it doesn't last very long, a few seconds, I was hoping that the actress would have gotten dunked or fully submerged.
There's a YouTube video where she talks about the scene and where you see a time lapse of her getting covered, she says it's a resin that dries and they put a plastic bag over her head.
PortCity Slophouse said: I wouldn't call this "mainstream", and the original Deathstalker has a fun mud wrestling scene.
That mud wrestling scene from 1983's Deathstalker was frequently replayed/paused/enjoyed on a VHS cliptape during my formative wam years. Starts around 31:56 in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLNJuqD5iuo&t=1916s
