1) I think Leonmoomin and his girls have shot some stuff in the muddy river near Bristol - he might be a good source for more in the area. 2) MessytomandEmily also just discovered a clay quarry in their area - it's on the east side of England, but I believe theyre open to visiting. Their mud looks brilliant there. 3) WamChantelle is a seasoned veteran of the gooey Essex claypits; Again, a bit farther away, but likely worth it to get in touch.
I have no doubt that someone else will bea ble to provide even better info - the forums here are full to busting with Brits- but I hope some of this helps.
Can't help with clay, and Wales is a big place... however if you're in South Wales anywhere near Kidwelly, the "Gwendraeth Fach" estuary to the west of the town has some interesting mud available.
There's a caravan park "Carmarthen Bay Holiday Park" just about at the end of where it gets interesting and turns sandy instead, but as a child we stayed on holiday there and I remember discovering this soft mud when I went 'wandering' and although I had no idea what these strange feelings were at the time, I wonder if it might possibly be an area that would suit your needs.
Yeah we have discovered some awesome, local mud spots. We're not near Wales though but the mud round here is definitely worth the visit. Theres a quarry 10 mins down the road from us, just outside Norwich, and the mud there is amazing. I went back there a few weeks ago and the mud was soooooo thick! I could bearly move in it,
We also have some coastal mud near kings Lynn which is nice and black and dirty!
It's quite flat round here so plenty of mash lands and muddy rivers to choose from
