Today, 2/13/19, is the 50th anniversary of the ABC network premiere of an episode of THAT GIRL that's likely a favorite of pie fans. "There Was a Time Ann Met a Pie Man" had Ann dressed "to the nines" and nailed with a pie on tv. She was so embarrassed she started wearing shades in public. (Her dad did too.) It was a great hit, and Ann was greatly humiliated by it. I remember it took me years before I could see this one on tv, but now anyone can see the hit at least here on YouTube:
There was a programme on ITV circa 1979 called The Programme. It was basically an anthology series going through e.g. detective shows or variety shows.
One episode was about comedy and the opening shot was very similar to this; elegant model coming down stairs slowly, and she addressed the camera.
"Hello, and welcome to...The Programme."
And then she was hit with a pie.
They then repeated the opening. She got to the same position, conspicuously looked left and right, and repeated her line.
To get soaked from above.
I've never been able to find out who that was, or, indeed, anything else about the programme. Other than I saw it on school holibobs. The trouble with being called The Programme means it is next to impossible to research.
