Is wam sexual only or can term just refer to any wet or nessy scene. I ask cause always tgought sexual but 2 people who fo mess videos used the term but they seem to only do it cause its fun
Going back to the old newsgroups (showing my age?), they included the word sex in the title. I have always assumed Wet And Messy describing the sexual fetish.
Personally, I don't care, if someone wants to produce nonsexual WAM, I usually still enjoy it
I'm not keen on the 'term' WAM, personally, but it's a lazy acronym we're kind of stuck with now.
For, probably, nostalgic reasons I find using the full term Wet and Messy far more titillating.
Wet and Messy Fun was always the 'catch all' term synonymous with Splosh! Bill Shipton's aim in using the word 'fun' (he frequently stated) was to make the sexual preoccupation feel a bit less sordid and shameful and more friendly, disarming, approachable and socially high functioning. I think it worked and it still does.
I recall it's from the old newsgroups days before the internet was generally something people new about (pre-1995) when modems were slow and and a single full screen picture could take 20 minutes to download. The newsgroups were filled to the brim with porn-spam so the few people sharing wet and messy/muddy pictures put the term "wam" in the title so the other wammers would know it was worth taking the time to look at. The term never went away when the internet went mainstream.

The term WAM came from the name of the newsgroup alt.sex.fetish.wet-and-messy. The group was created in early 1995 but took a while to be available on all systems, there was a period where it was available on Compuserve's "accessible only while you are dialled up" servers but not the ones you could connect to using a normal newsreader where you downloaded everything to read off-line after you'd hung up the phone. This meant accessing a.s.f.w-a-m (as it was known) very expensive for anyone who had to pay by the minute for phone calls.
The original proposal was to create a group called all.sex.fetish.messy-fun, with an alternate proposal for alt.sex.fetish.sploshing, however there was a convention that groups didn't get named after commercial entities.
In the early days there wasn't much spam on the group, the mass tide of junk started in 97ish as I remember, which is when people started prefixing any valid threads with WAM so other readers would know the post was real and not spam.
