Handheld mics (rather than the usual more discrete body worn ones) does suggest people expecting to hand them to assistants and then jump / be pushed in, unless the mics are a regular gimmick of the show.

They are / have been regular gimmicks (thats some years ago already), but in this case you are nevertheless right
I seem to remember a few months ago a thread discussing a German TV show where the female presenter seemed often to get wet. From what I recall they were usually outside.
