So recently I've been pondering if I should start my own amateur store of mostly me messing myself. I've gotten some action on just the few pictures I've posted on here. I had no idea anybody would like them. I may do custom requests, but Im just testing the waters to see any possible feedback. Thanks and have a Messy Thanksgiving.
I would recommend a UMD site as a store, starting out. Other sites have monthly maintenance costs, while UMD is free to list. Meaning if sales are less than anticipated, you're not out of any money for running the store.
On the flip side, UMD does have a rather steep commission, meaning sales will be worth less at the same price point.
Finally, a word of caution. Hearts are free. While you may have a positive response to free content you post, that may not translate into sales. This isn't meant to dissuade, but something for you to consider. By all means, feel free to open a store. If you were going to have a session anyways, being able to sell it can offset the costs associated, and break even or perhaps make a profit. Selling on UMD has minimal downsides. I just don't want you to expect too much from other members. It costs nothing to leave a comment or give a heart, but users will think twice about throwing down money. (This isn't a dig at other members, either. Any money spent on luxury items, like UMD downloads, isn't money that can be spent elsewhere if needed.)
