I am able to watch/stream videos on other sites and download videos etc. but on UMD the download speeds are glacial, is there something really obvious that other people are doing and I'm not?

Any help would be much appreciated.

First off, it's not the speed of your connection, it's the speed achievable between your ISP and the source. When you stream from a major operator like YouTube or Disney, chances are the content is actually coming from a caching server just up the street, or at worst a few dozen miles away. Major operators utilise Content Delivery Networks (CDNs). But those kinds of facilities are expensive. When you stream or download from here, all the traffic is coming all the way from the actual UMD servers in Las Vegas. Hence why it'll be a lot slower, depending on overall network traffic.
I find the best time for UMD speed is first thing in the morning UK time, when the US is asleep. Then, with network load way down, things really fly.

Exactly this. You're only ever gonna get something as fast as you're given it. I feel some of the latest speeds achievable are just numbers to boast, the day to day difference between 100 & 900 are probably unnoticeable.
I'm on 80 and my TV & Music never buffer, updates and general downloads aren't slow and I can't imagine what major differences I'd notice with a faster connection.
Anyway I digress about internet speeds, yes I notice on here downloads take longer and video streaming can be a pain at times but I accept that due to the hand-built nature of this site.

I think the paid-for content is prioritised over the free stuff, whenever I've bought downloads (most recently, the week before last) they've downloaded at a decent rate.
I came into this forum to see if anyone else was having the same problem. Yesterday I downloaded 3 purchases in a few minutes, and then the 4th took over 2 hours. Very frustrating when our downloads expire.

If your download expires contact the seller. Most of us a pretty good about extending when we can. We know shit happens sometimes
