I haven't been in a natural mud spot in many years. I'm way past due for another adventure. Does anybody know a secluded discreet spot like a creek where I can wash off afterwards with no litter or dirty water in the Atlanta GA area? I would like to do it while the weather is still relatively warm. I love the feeling of being engulfed in mud, allowing it to dry over me while hearing the birds, smelling the rich earthy silt, seeing the leaves fall down towards me, and feeling the mud all over me like millions of microscopic massaues on my skin. The best feeling!
There was a post earlier in the year that linked to a Google Map of mud places. (Hey, Aussie Bob posted it above me. I'm blind... ) I'll see if I can find it and post it in the UMD wiki under mud. Hang on and give me a bit.
Edit: I updated the wiki and there is a link to the map here. Hope this helps people out in the future! Be safe, have fun!
You're out of luck for deep clay in the immediate Atlanta area but you are fortunate in that you are located near Sandersville, Georgia which is pretty much the kaolin (white clay) mining capital of the world. There are numerous quarries along the "fall line" near Sandersville so it is only a matter of using Google satellite view to look over the fences, so to speak, and find a quarry with a settling pond of deep clay and then figure a way to get in there unseen. Parking vehicles near quarries leads to trouble these days so you will need to bicycle and/or walk to reach the mudpit. If you locate a good mudpit, let me know and I'll come out and we can pay it a visit.
