When I was in my late teens, I picked up a t-shirt in an record shop featuring a print by Sandy Skoglund. I became a fan of her art immediately. Her work is heavily influential in what became my artistic stylings.
Sandy Skoglund builds and photographs surreal art installations. She uses a variety of media, but I favor her plaster castings.
The piece "spirituality in the flesh" could even be considered a messy piece as she covered the model, and the entire studio in ground beef. "The cocktail party" also featured food, as the models were posed covered in Cheetos.
The shirt I got had my favorite of her pieces "radioactive cats". She later did an image with the cats on rooftops in France called "cats in Paris". Truly awesome stuff
