I heard on the news just a little while ago that Robin Williams was found dead in his home around noon time (PT) today of an apparent suicide.
What sad news! I remember when "Mork & Mindy" first came on and what a fun, funny show it was! And his movie career is lengthy, plus his appearances on late night talk shows.I'm praying for his family to get through this, as well as all the extraneous, prying, media attention.
If there is a positive to be taken from this horrible situation, it may be that there can be an opening as far as productive dialogue concerning depression.
I've read comments from people proclaiming "But how could he be depressed? He had lots of money!". When you are battling depression, no amount of money is going to make you happy. In fact, it may exascerbate the problem. The fact that someone with his resources ended his life, shows just how big a hole depression can be.
And add to it Williams colorful history of cocaine use and alcoholism, maybe we shouldn't be surprised things ended the way they did. Maybe the surprise is that it didn't happen sooner.
