Jayne Meadows died yesterday. She was 95. For those not familiar with her she was a beautiful actress, with fiery red hair, who was married to Steve Allen.
Sometime in the mid-late '60's, Steve had a comedy show which co-starred Jayne. One of their skits was a slapstick version of "Taming of the Shrew". It was hilarious, and she and Steve both got well-pied. At the end of the skit, they chased each other around the studio with pies. When the one was thrown, the intended recipient (I don't remember if it was Steve or Jayne) ducked, and an "audience member" got it!
She was the older sister of Audrey Meadows, who played Jackie Gleason's wife on "The Honeymooners".
