Odd that I was just mentioning rare pie material today in the Luminess thread.....and then I find this.
Soupy Sales threw many pies in his career, 99.98% of them into male faces. He used to claim that he never pied a woman, or that he had once pied Shirley MacLaine on his 1960s TV show (never verified or documented), but no other females. He did memorably pie Joan Rivers on her Fox late-night talk show, and I think we knew of maybe one or two others that fail to come to mind. (Getting old and forgetful...) ' Well, here's a newspaper item from 1975 of another rare and previously unknown female pieing! It's a horrible old microfilm shot, poorly scanned, but is sort of legible. Of the gazillion newspapers on newspapers.com, it only appears once, in a Troy, NY paper. (It may have appeared elsewhere, but they only have the one at the moment.
Soupy was born on this day today, so I posted a tribute and did some searching to see if I could find any more evidence of Soupy pie'ing females. The only thing I could find was this clip of Soupy throwing a pie at an Elvira impersonator.
