This may seem like a completely random question but, did anyone ever used to be afraid of gunge or messy stuff? When I was a child, I used to absolutely terrified of gunge. If there was ever a gungey gameshow on TV, I would get scared and switch the TV over to another channel or go out of the room because I couldn't bare to watch it. I still to this day don't know why I was so scared of it, especially since now I'm on a gunge website looking for messy fun. Was it just me? Am I just a weirdo (well I am but beside the point) or did anyone else used to be like that ???
I was always fascinated by gunge! But never allowed to get even dirty as a child or even take part in a waterfight , let alone partake in anything involving gunge.
I remember some girls doing a sponsored custard filled wellies, and I'm fairly certain that's where my fascination with WAM started.
When I was a lot younger, I was afraid people would find out I liked it. Then once I hit late teenage years, I learned that people think it's cool when girls are good with getting dirty. Made it much easier to do mud volleyball and frat mud wrestling nights after that!
Yep I was scared about the custard, cream and rice pudding being poured on people for the briefest of moments but I think it's part of the reason I can't eat the stuff.
Somehow that also very quickly became a fascination for it and I never really had a problem for the non-food gunge. I love getting gunged.
I absolutely hated seeing any gunge/pie stuff on TV tbh, always felt nervous about it, but when I was first pied and then splattered matey back I found it was harmless and I was rather good at it... Really hated it when I was a child though.
My earliest memories of gunge on TV, I was definitely scared of gunge - particularly when people were sat inside the gunge machine (tank) and it came down on their heads. The thought of being in that position myself scared me, but at the same time I was fascinated with gunge and seeing people get gunged. I used to watch people get gunged with terrified delight.
In contrast, when the gunge was being poured down people's pants (a regular occurrence on this particular show I used to watch), rather than onto the head, I was all good and wished for it to happen to me. But I was still scared getting gunged over my head.
I must have almost reached adolescence before I realized "If they can all get gunged on their heads and (most) seem to enjoy it so much, then why am I so afraid?"
Yeah I used to run a mile when nhp was on I my parents were certainly aware of it. Then my the age of 8 or 9 I began being weirdly interested in wam without wanting to get messy myself but happy to see girls get gunged. Then when I hit 14 I had a eureka moment as I woke up one morning wanting to get gunged myself I still remember that day clearly. Your definitely not the first to be scared and not the last.
I would hate to watch with family in the room. There was an episode of Golden Girls where Bea Author got into a gungetake-like clear box on a game show and I started to get horrified. It turned out to be one of those money blowing in the wind boxes. That sticks out in my mind as it's forever etched in there.
