I just tried some xanthan gum slime after searching for different recipes online from readily available ingredients. There was lot's of bad reviews regarding clumping and issues mixing but I figured I would give it a try.
I bought a 240g pack from the local grocery store and noticed a tip on the package! First mix the xanthan gum with cooking oil, I used canola oil, in a bowl prior to adding to water. I was going to make 8 liters of slime so I added 80g of the xanthan powder to a mixing bowl. I then just eyeballed the canola oil mixing with a spoon to get kind of gloopy paste. Then I filled my bucket with 8L of hot water, only tap hot I never bothered boiling it. I stirred up the paste in the bowl just prior to adding to the water. When I added it to the water it did drop to the bottom but I put in a hand held mixer/blender and stirred for maybe a minute. I moved the mixer throughout the bucket and noticed it changing consistency. It wasn't long before I stuck a finger in to test it and wow!
It was slippery, runny and all things I wanted from slime. I had to stick my face in it immediately and OMG what an amazing mixture! It was warm and slimy and blissful. It is currently cooling off and getting thicker. I did not add any colouring as I never had any in the cupboard but will try to add some later. I can't wait to play with this slime as I have never had so much, so slippery and perfect at once before.
Quick update, I added food colouring after the slime set and mixed in with same hand held blender. Took some effort to get the colour all the way through but the result was pure ecstasy! Definitely going to colour the water first moving forward. If you want the mix thicker try 120g of xanthan or 160g. Mine was slippery, slimey and just right.
