Cool Whip.... Is it stable outside of a refrigerated environment (like at Room Temp) and for how long?
If not, does it Melt? or start to separate in anyway?
I haven't eaten it in years, and never used it for Messy Activities, so forgive me ignorance.
My plan is for making a few Pies - Graham Cracker Crust, Pudding Base, w/ Cool Whip topping, but I don't want them to be freezing or COLD. and Preferably able to sit out on a table for a few hours.
Thoughts? Advice? Is this even possible or do they have to be refrigerated?
I use it quite a bit and it can be out of the fridge for several hours and still be good. Let the container sit out on the counter a couple of hours, lids off if possible. Even better is to make the pies, put a big scoop of cool whip (I typically get 3 pies out of the larger tubs) on each pie and then wait maybe 30 minutes or more to spread the topping on the pies, so much easier to spread. I initially was concerned about how the cool whip would last unrefrigerated but it does hold up quite well.
You'll get best results letting it thaw overnight in the fridge, then letting it come up to room temp. Try whipping a little canned frosting or thick cake batter into it to make stick better.
Agree with both of them though i prefer the over night in the fridge method to thawing. Also mixing in cake batter or frosting is a great way to turn your cool whip fun colors you can also use food coloring drops if you don't want to change the consistency. Some example pics for you . Also depending on your location you might be able to find some already flavored /colored cool whip like in the pics below the birthday cake cool whip is a pale purple with swirls of color in it.
