This is my random thought for today about gungings. It's about "set up" gungings. i.e. The ones where the person on the receiving end of a gunging or pieing has absolutely no idea what's about to happen to them.
Do you ever worry that the "victim" won't take it very well? e.g. if someone was gunged on a TV show who was set up by someone they knew, would you worry that they would feel betrayed, angry or ashamed by the one who set them up and react very drastically (getting angry or violent, or retreat away from public life because they felt so embarassed or, heaven forbid, even traumatised)
I know that, with almost all the "set up" gungings I've seen on telly or on youtube, the "victims" are generally good sports and take it very well, but I do worry that there are some who wouldn't take it so well.
This is just a random thought that occurred to me after watching a few set ups on youtube recently, as I can only watch a messy video if I know that the person or people on the receiving end will enjoy it or at least take it very well and about 99% of messy videos I've watched, that is certainly the case
Is it just me that worries about that, or does anyone else feel the same ?
May I ask for a few examples of vids on YT? Favorite type, I would love to be suckered into something like that. But I can envision how many people wouldn't.

Here's a clip from Noel's House Party where three husbands are set up by their wives to go through the famous "trip around the house" gunge tank. There are a few examples from this show. I hope you can watch it in the US.
I think it probably comes down to the relationship of the person who set them up - I have friends who I know would take it well and others who wouldn't.
I also feel that anyone who went to see NHP being filmed must have thought that it's at least a tiny possibility they may be gunged.
Both guys did seem to enjoy it though. Wonder what happened to their clothes and how they got home. I guess they could easily get old clothes from the BBC wardrobe department.
I always thought that contestants on GYOB would want to end up "loosing"(even on purpose) as their family member who nominated them would then win the prize. At least they were given the GYOB kit to wear to go in the Gunk Dunk.

The Charlotte McGinn gunging from NHP always struck me as very cruel, since she took particular pride in her appearance, had no way of knowing that gungings would be a fixture on the show, and TV ratings were multiple times higher than they are today, three decades on.
It's a real fantasy of mine to be subjected to thus kind of gunging...but I think it will remain a fantasy! I think some of the NHP gungees will have been told in advance. I know what you mean about Charlotte seeming genuinely shocked. I guess if ur family or friends are of the type to go to that kind of event then you're more than likely to be cool with bring gunged (which conversely might make you less likely to be a kinky Splosher?)
A Noel's Party event came to near me growing up and there was no chance we would go, let alone be gunk dunked!!!
It's something I was thinking about the other day when I saw a couple of the NHP set up gungings and how I'd react if I was set up. If it happened to me today, I would likely have taken it well (depending on who it was who had set me up) but, if that had happened to me when the show was on back in the 90s (when I was an anxiety ridden teen), I'd have been absolutely terrified if I had been set up and would have probably ran off the set panicking or never dared show my face in public again. And, tbh, my anxiety about something like that was that bad during my teens, I had some nightmares about that actually happening.
I imagine that the folk set up were chosen so that they knew they would take it very well and there wouldn't be a very awkward moment of an angry or terrified victim sitting in the tank chair covered in gunge and looking like they were actually going to kill everyone involved live on telly. Most of the ones I've watched took it well and some of them actually looked like they enjoyed it. But it's something that I do think about what might have happened if they had picked someone who wouldn't have been such a great sport.
I generally preferred it when famous people were gunged on NHP because I knew that they actually wanted it and then I know they would enjoy it. As I said at the start of this post, I only enjoy watching people get gunged and pied if I know they're enjoying it.

I wonder what ever became of her.
While it was unexpected Noel's House Party had a reputation for such acts which she can't have been oblivious to. If you go on that programme there was always a risk of something embarrassing happening to you, even if it didn't involve gunge then there were other tricks and jokes Noel was known for indulging in.
There are a lot of examples here of the "victim" taking it well. I can't find video evidence of the opposite happening but I can remember a couple of instances on "Jim Davidson's Generation Game". HE was notorious for finding any excuse he could to mess up the contestants and I'm sure most of them were completely unaware it was going to happen. I remember one woman getting a so called "makeover" from Mr Blobby where she was splatted with eggs and all other kinds of mess and she looked absolutely terrified throughout. There was another incident of a young guy being covered in mud from the Roly Polys and he looked really embarrassed afterwards.
