I received a message in my UMD inbox from a user with the name Laura33. She claimed to be a Sergeant in the US Army and wanted to contact me via email (which I never do with any UMD users as this would provide to much personal information of min and I want my professional identity to remain anonymous here). As of posting this, she has only been a member of the site for 2 hours.

Since she provided her name and supposed US military rank, I did a quick Google search of her and found links to the website "ScamWarners" as well as other links describing a scam claiming she was in possession of large sums of money and wanted contact information of the people she was messaging on various social media sites.

I'm sure 99% of you guys who have gotten contacted on this site by her are smart enough not to fall for any shenanigans like this, but I figured I should still provide you with a fair warning. Don't get your hopes up for a new female member of the WAM community; we have a scammer on the loose.

Ironic a scammer posing as a US military sergeant would arrive here on the 4th of July... SMH
