Tried using pop tarts as a cheaper, quicker alternative to pie crusts with OK results, I think. Softened them up a bit by microwaving on medium in a damp paper towel. Just used a few in a very small session with shaving cream, tempera paint, honey, some feathers (found a pillow at Kmart!) and a sliver of chocolate cake. I was only testing smaller single pop tart "pies", but probably three or four to a plate would yield the full-face effect (about 25 cents per tart). As you can see in the GIF below (5.64 MB) they can also be broken apart and used as deodorant or a hat Here's a short vid in six poppin' panels.
