Hey as a long time pie fan I've been wondering if anyone on here actually prefers it when the pie is held by the edge of the tin and slapped into the models face? I for one dont like those kinds of hits as they seem to ruin the "vibe" for me as it seems lazy and that the pie handler doesn't care. I know others feel that way about those types of hits but I was wondering if anyone out there really likes it best? (Im bored today)
Yea, I am absolutely in favor of a flat palmed pie hit. Holding from the side is more of a "Pie Slap" not the same as a "Pie Hit". That one detail alone is a make or break for me.
alot of the ones from Sindy especially the shaving cream album was mostly held on the edge, shaving cream tho so coverage was still ok. When she pied herself the one time in her new vol, she used both hands and really pied herself good (pictures below of both styles) but yes when the hand is in the middle, the pie is much better. Examples from Me pieing Harlee with a huge chocolate pie, and then new model Marlaina getting pied too.
Even when edge-of-the-tin is done well, I prefer a smushed pie (hand on back of tin) or well-thrown pie (assuming decent coverage). You see the edge of the tin from a lot of pretty models. Very delicate. God bless 'em, they are trying to be gentle. It works some time, but I doubt Mr. MessyGirl or Rich would do the edge-of-the-tin if given a choice. That said: edge-of-tin>>> self-pie

I love how y'all think female models are easily programmable fembots who can do a perfect full-handed hit after 30 seconds of instruction.
99% of WAM models don't care about WAM or its little details. They would never consider hitting someone else with a pie (or taking one) if they weren't getting paid very well. The stuff you guys obsess over means literally nothing to them. If they do it "right," it's either by accident or because a producer kept hammering home his specific way of doing it. (Or they've done a ton of shoots and have finally figured it out.... Of course, as another thread on this board brought up, that's about the time y'all stop buying their stuff cuz you're bored with them.)
Or to put it simply: If a girl like Eden, above, absolutely CLOBBERS her sis with a pie that results in great coverage.... I don't care if she uses one hand, two hands, the edge of the tin, or kicks it with her foot. I've seen SO many lousy hits from SO many models over the years that any good one is cause for celebration.

I'm not keen on the 'flip' but it's more a symptom of very light or shaving foam pies.
This doesn't tend to happen with heavier 'real' pies as it's not possible to pick them up like that without them collapsing or the contents spilling out.
I believe the 'held by the edge of the tin' pie hit was popularized by Nickelodeon (STL) where young kids were often the target...so, whether in an effort by the producers to 'tame' the violent nature of the slapstick pie hit, or, because some post-boomer mom complained...you started seeing (in the last few seasons) the hosts ONLY doing the edge of the tin pie technique (with a quick wrist flick or two to get the pie smeared enough)...it was the 'kinder/gentler" pie in the face hit...I'm guessing they were instructed to do that to undercut the obvious aggressive or 'violent' nature of a true (palm held) pie hit. (Moe Howard turns over in his grave)
And THAT, kids, is how snowflake culture was born. The more you know...
