As a non-native English speaker, however, it got me thinking about both of the terms. There is clear difference between pies and cakes, but you say predominantly "pie fight", "pie in the face" instead of "cake fight" etc., despite most of the "pies" in majority of scenes I've seen behave more like cakes.
