I've seen outdoor WAM and wondered how you clean up after. Do you avoid sploshing with sweets like chocolate syrup etc to reduce the risk of wasps etc hanging about after the shoot? Is Xanthan gum a good choice?
Personally I'd be more worried about wasps during the shoot than after.
As far as I know wasps only really go for sweet stuff later into the summer (when theres naturally a lot of sugary food about in overripe fruit trees). If there a problem, you can look into decoy nests and wasp traps to keep your filming area safe.
I guess outdoor sploshing has the advantage of being much easier to wash down with a hosepipe/pressure washer, so you could probably go far crazier with the mess compared to indoor locations. The downside of being outdoors is whatever you use is much more easily released into the environment, so you may want to use a biodegradable mess. And direct sunlight can dry mess out faster which will make cleanup (set and models) harder.

Excellent points. I think I'll start with Xanthan gum. It's a thickener for thickening food. Should be easy to rinse away and minimal if any environmental impact.
