I have noticed that at the moment, there are a few posts that ask about nasty smelling substances to use in WAM. This has got me thinking, I do it from time to time.
While I have used gravy, baked beans and mushy peas in the past, I was not particularly a great fan, and of course the smell was rather whiffy. So I was just wondering why people seem to want the WAM with the most disgusting, smelly, horrible substances?
Strong smelling items such as mayonnaise, ketchup, curry sauce (ooo stingy) seem popular as does dog food.
Don't get me wrong, im not saying im against any of this,WAM covers a wide area and selection of substances, everybody is entitled to get messy with whatever they choose (within reason of course),and I know such people look amazing covered in disgusting smelly substances(the always delightful Patsy Pastry for one), but I just want to understand the appeal of something disgusting. Is it the humiliation element of it, is that its taking WAM to an extreme,or is it really the texture/smell?
I have to admit, I'm more of a sweet Wammer, who loves custard, cream, yogurt, chocolate, etc. So this maybe why i can't quite understand.
There is an appeal factor for some when it comes to getting messy. We're told not to play with our food when young, so we turn into rebels by becoming adult wammers. There's a thrill in the taboo factor of doing what is supposed to be 'wrong' and it becomes a sexual kink for many people.
So even in the area of what to get messy with there is a further 'wrong' element for some, and perhaps a further kink is going for it. Example: Someone has been to a mud spa and enjoyed the experience, but one day they encounter some really smelly, gross-looking mud. Either they'll think 'yuck' and walk away, or get aroused by the fact that it's more dirty than 'clean' mud. Same with foods. Some people like the humiliation factor of playing with more gross foods, or the shock factor of spicy foods or ice cold items straight from the fridge. The thrill seems to come from the yuck factor or the uncomfortable feeling. There's either a 'yuck' response, or an 'OMG, imaging playing in THAT'.
Some people play with latex paint (which washes off if you get it before it dries) but I have seen a photo set here or there with OIL paint. (which is horrible to get off and requires harsh chemicals such as turpentine to dissolve it) People have done 'fake-tar' photos, due to how horrible real tar would be, yet they want to pretend that it is real for the added excitement it brings.
The baked bean queen will weigh in-it is just different lol I mostly do sweets like yourself, but sometimes l mix it up with what normally is a rougher texture (I am thinking beans, creamed corn) or visual change (nacho cheese pours differently)
The more extreme smells, I really have zero experience! I will say that it normally takes a lot of convincing for mustard because of staining and smell!
For me, the stronger scents can work in certain situations, but... very often the mess itself is fun for a bit, but then the smell reaches overload and I just want it washed off immediately.
Or, as was the case in pesto that one time... I just never want to see what was once a delicious ingredient ever again!
Surprisingly I don't mind savory stuff too much! As long as it doesn't go up the nose! Sometimes much better than other stuff, like whipped cream. That stuff smells for ages. We just bought a huge amount of savory last week for a really big one coming up
You read my mind. I was only thinking about this recently.
I had a session where I used Ranch Dressing and it completely ruined the experience for me. I just kept thinking about how horrible the smell was.
I guess there is a humiliation aspect to it, although I personally prefer when everyone's "relatively comfortable". There is a limit.
Beans are ideal as the smell isn't toooo bad (depending on who you ask), but something like dog food or ranch dressing (strangely) makes me want to get sick.
It is very interesting how everyone has different preference for different reasons; so each to their own.

Ooh, now I'm really intrigued and excited to see what you do with that lot.
I don't much enjoy irl scenes with savoury. I like sweet stuff and shaving cream, and generally speaking, that is about it.
The one exception, is that I have always wanted to do a scene with someone willing to be messed up with "Alpha-Gehtti"
It's like the "hoops" canned pasta that we see in a lot of UK sploshing scenes, but I think it would be all kinds of fun to spell out naught words on the victim for the camera.
My experience with savoury and the smellier items, it's very much linked to punishments in play, rather than the funishment of the nicer stuff like custard or actual gunge!
As somebody who was tentatively testing the water out on this site I have found humiliation to be the most amazing factor for me. I love the being in control and having somebody messy and suffering for me.
Humiliation/rush off I really don't want to get in that because I'll smell but damn it turns me on when a woman is prepared to mess her nice hair. Biggest one for me is eggs.
There's also to much to the point the smell makes you want to throw up and that was mayo for me. Stings and the smell was very strong. My mrs was actually putting up with it better than me
For me, the enjoyment of savory / nasty messes comes entirely from humiliation and power exchange. I'm a submissive at heart, and anything I do in the bedroom is derived from that.
Left to my own devices, I'd never use mayo, beans, ketchup, sauces, soups, or any other savory item. They are nasty and gross. The pleasure for me comes from being told to do it, having it done to me "without me asking for it", and fulfilling my partner's sadistic desires. That is what energizes me and makes me enjoy this part of WAM.
As for the smell, it all comes down to headspace for myself. The deeper I am into that submissive mindset, or the more I mentally prepare for something, the better I can handle a smell. Ambush me with a cheese sauce, and I'll break out my restraints and scarper up a tree like a lost cat. But warn me it's coming? Yeah, I can deal with that.

Everything you said is pretty much where I'm at with regards to my kink. Love knowing that it ain't just me!
I must admit this is an aspect of WAM I don't get. Like, at all.
Don't get me wrong, with the amount of scenes produced featuring this sort of stuff there must be a market for it. But personally, I cannot think of anything worse!
Never been a fan of any 'savoury' WAM, and I feel like recently there's been a trend of doing 'disgusting' slime containing dog food etc. I am not exaggerating when I say that it's hard to imagine anything being more of a turn off! When I see those scenes, all I can imagine is being in the room/studio at the time and doing my best not to throw up
Again, each to their own, but I think it looks absolutely vile! Not for me, thanks
For me nasty/savory is more something I love seeing others get subjected to because it all looks really good on others, and also the humiliation aspect. I just find it so hot when someone is subjected to it as a punishment like if they lose a game, or during some kind of role play. As far a using it myself it's only because I like filming my sessions and watching them back/posting them here for others to see, so I only use it if I'm going to be filming myself. I personally don't really like using savory myself, but I tolerate it if it's for a video or if I'm having a session with another person and the loser has to get the savory stuff. As far as that goes though I can only really handle certain substances though because some of them are way too gross for me like beans, spaghetti hoops, mayo, etc.
