Hello folks, numbskull here. After reading the Hurley Coward cliptapes thread, I suddenly remembered seeing a pie clip that seems to have escaped everyone's attention. Not even MK or Lenny recall it!!
So, if you folks like searching for grails, have I got a doozy.
The clip dates from 1978-79, and it was a commercial aired in the NYC area for a short-lived TV Guide-ripoff called "TV Week" magazine. I saw it several times on WPIX-TV during their daily afternoon block of cartoons and reruns.
The ad opens on a full-face shot of a pretty Latina-looking brunette, extolling the virtues of TV Week magazine. It even has cable listings! (She specifically mentions the "Wometco" cable network, pinning the date of this ad at 1978-80.)
There are no cuts, no other angles, just one videotape camera framing our pretty young spokeslady with her long silky black hair.
At the ad's conclusion, our friend delivers the tagline with a big smile:
"TV Week Magazine. Colorful...and Sophisticated!"
SPLAT!!! The lady DISAPPEARS beneath a thrown cream pie!
She tries to wrap with something that sounds like "...for only a quarter", but with under all that pie it comes off as "buh bodie a pawda!" A stagehand can be heard laughing off-camera. (...and Fade.)
