These things have just occurred to me and I'm curious as to why they made these changes. Might just be because the gunge tanks weren't finished in time? I'm curious if any other nhp fans have any thoughts and findings...
In the last few episodes of series 1, they include added jets in the gunge tank. I wonder why they only added these towards the end. They are great, I love the extra colours!
In series 3 they start with only one brush in the car wash and then later add another brush to make it 2.
In the first couple of episodes of series 4, the trip around the house finishes way before the fireplace. Then later this is changed so they go through the foam and get the big gunging at the end.
I enjoyed the car wash gunge tank era of NHP. It was quite cleverly done, plus that series had the best gungings. Controversially, I think the trip round the house turned into a little bit of gunge overkill. I preferred it when the end result was only the final gunging and not mini gungings along the way. Just my thoughts

The great thing about the Trip is that it was done with such ceremony, making the gunging a sort of grand celebratory humiliation. It was great when they got foamed along the way and a pie right at the start (as happened once or twice, as in this clip at 2:16: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MptK6W9qfjY&t=2m16). The gungings at the end in the fireplace weren't always what they could have been though in terms of coverage, volume and view. So on the whole I agree that the carwash and straightforward tank were best.
I agree, my favourite is definitely the carwash tank. I love the way that they are sitting upright on a chair and have to go through the brushes and get wet before the gunging. I wish they used more water on some of the gungings and also wish they had used foam half way through as well, perhaps making the tunnel just a little bit longer. Nhp started my wam addiction and still remains my favourite tv show with gunge. Imagine how the carwash tank could look if they ever did bring it back!
I was never a fan of the trip round the house, the gungings and coverage never seemed to compare with the classic tank or car wash. Must have cost a fortune to construct though!
I do love that gunging, especially when they appear out of the fireplace but then send them back under it at the end. I always thought they should do the same with the carwash but send them back through it.
Does anyone have any clips of the tank with the extra jets in it? I love the traditional tank but always felt that (unless the victim was a good sport and lifted their face or moved around a bit) they single drop from above could miss most of them. I liked it when they added the foam filling up from the bottom for this reason.
I think the Trip Around the House was the most humiliating, especially when it involved pies or foam early on. A real delayed gratification to the final gunging and I love that you can get more than one victim in the seat.
I had a random thought today about why the trip around the house gunging wasn't as good as the tank or the car wash. It was because it came out in multiple thin streams and didn't always cover the victim very well. The tank and the car wash was simply one big thick stream of gunge and covered the victim perfectly, especially when they got the "dome of gunge" going over their head. When it came to the trip, they likely had to use multiple streams as there were usually two people in the car that were to be covered. It covered the two of them but lost it's power a bit. Just a random thought. As you were
